My favorite Social Worker called yesterday and said, "Since your claim was denied you will probably be transitioning your husband home today?" I said, "No, he wants to stay." "And who will be paying for it?" "We are." "Then I will have the Business Office call you."
The Business Office lady called and said they want 30 days in advance which is $9,000. I asked her 3 times if there were any other charges. She finally said that Physical Therapy is a separate charge; and she couldn't tell me how much it was???? We also owe our copay of $4,000+ for 21 days.
That's the latest. Thank you for your continued support, prayers and thoughts.

That’s utter bull shirt (minus the R). They will wait for months for the insurance company to pay, and what they don’t pay the place writes off. You should ask them for the same fee that the insurance company pays, which is a WHOLE lot less than $300 a day.
Oh, well, still praying for you. Hopefully he’ll get to come home soon.

@LindaOHio I really wish, I could have helped you. In India, it is manageable. I can ask you to come here, but knowing your condition and your husband's condition at this stage, that would not be viable. Aren't there any social networks that help with such things?

I'm hoping for 2-3 weeks. I just wish he'd get PT on the weekends.

We can handle the financial part...I just think the insurance company should have extended his stay.

@LindaOHio It's absolute extortion from the rehab and the insurance company.

If hubby didn't need the physical therapy so badly, we wouldn't do it.

@LindaOHio I can understand very well. He can do nothing without help and you cannot help him.

@LindaOHio If your husband comes home, maybe you could hire a private duty nurse to help him. But, then that costs money too.

@LindaOHio I'm glad you have it to fall back on. I hope he becomes strong enough by the end of May.

We have our retirement fund. He needs to be strong enough to come home. He can't even get up to go to the bathroom.

Physical Therapy may be expensive too. You really need to prepare for such expenses.

@LindaOHio The going rate in our city is about 600 INR for one hour. That is about 7.25 USD. I would think it would be around 3 times or so there.

That is a lot of money. Yet I can see that you cannot have him at home if you don´t have help. Is there another way?

@LindaOHio Climbing steps means a long time. Muscles are destroyed if you are too long in bed.

The important thing is getting my husband ready to come home. If this is what it takes, then so be it.

I don't know how to like this post. Seriously? First they tell you suddenly that your insurance coverage will expire, instead of giving you updates from the day one so that you all take appropriate steps in time. That creates stress and you are I presume on disability allowance. How can they be so careless? How can they be employed as caregivers? Care givers are programmed to think in depth...it just comes naturally. Claim denied...I think FourWalls already suggested Veteran's something. Had they told you upfront, you would have put in an application there too, and known how much you have to generate. This is ..words fail me. Extremely disappointing from a country like the US.

Thank you for your kind words. I agree with it all. They should have extended his stay and allowed him to get more physical therapy.

At this point it would be hard to transfer him. We are going to bite the bullet and have him stay there.
