Why do European people eat plenty of wheat?

Europeans tend to consume foods made up of wheat. They seem to avoid rice as much as possible. Why are Europeans not a lot inclined towards rice and the like?

M.-L. @Abesol @Starkinds @KityCat What a strange question. Rice doesn't grow everywhere in the world as you should know. What is true for Europe is also true for North America. Where do you find rice fields in the USA and Canada?
