Anyone have any tips on training a dog that is past puppy stage?

My dog is going to be 3 soon and the only thing she knows is her name and "go to bed" I'd like to teach her to come when called and to stay down. Any tips would be welcome.

rebelann1949 Obviously the person is not spending much time with the dog @ButtrflyDreams the first thing a person should do is establish a bond which means the person must spend a lot of time with the dog.
