How do you deal with tantrums?

My 18 month old throws tantrums ALL THE TIME. I know this is normal, but how do you deal with your children's tantrums, and still keep your own sanity? I am new to this, help me out!

Is anyone watching Oprah??? The father of these 5 y/o twin girls stabbed them to death. I just don't understand how any parent could do that, and live with themselves afterward! What are your views??
