Why do hindu religion have so many gods while the other religions just have a single iconic character to worship?

I myself being a Hindu practitioner ...I have sometimes felt that hindu is just populated with a lot of idols to worship like vishnu, shiva, brahma being the big bosses ..while each village in every part of the country has its own...
