What are these stars?

I am new to mylot so I am learning all about it. I have noticed some stars next to user names. They are different colours and can have a number in the centre of them. What are these for?

Unknown Stars serves as a rank. The higher number u got mean u have a high rank. Its very difficult to achieve good ranks. U should respond to each discussion thoroughly and correctly for it to be credited to ur own account.
