last week a friend of mine ask me if she needs to buy a trekking pole. she is just starting to enjoy hiking. she is a rock climber for a year. I never used a trekking pole and I could not answer the advantage and disadvantege it...

I never use a trekking pole being young and strong. My mother though, suffers from occasional joint pain and so finds the use of a *pair* of trekking poles to be immeasurably useful.

I go on long walks several times a week, and will usually go for a mile a more at a time. This of course isn't counting my usual exercise schedule on the treadmill or the times I go on hikes.
