Ipod or not?

I hear that lot of people use ipod and i really whant make sure that are they good or not so i dont spend i money without reason.is there something better than ipod with same porpose.thanks for all answers

better than iphone

WarWolf thanks unicorn for answering but ipod is something like mp3 and everyone say that it is better and i wont carry my laptop around to listen music...xD so is mp3 better then ipod and is there something you like to use to listen music and i cannot use my mobile...
