Can Office 2007 files be viewed by people using Office 2003?

I am doing some work in Office 2007 and plan to email these files to friends. Are they able to read the work that I have done if they are not using office 2007

i am using microsoft word 2003 and its gives me so much trouble and problem when i am copying presentation, notes or document from my friends that are saved in microsoft word 2007 or 2010..many of them in class used it..then, all...
