How do you introduce your committed relationship (non-married) to others?

I mean, you are trying to let the other person/s know this is a committed relationship. Do you say: This is my partner? My significant other? My lover? My best friend? What term do you use and tell why it suits you.

beth73 My fiance and I usually just say this is my husband/wife. Of course we have been together for almost 11 years so that may make a difference.
