If the goverment prints and makes money why can't they payoff the national debt?

The goverment prints millions of dollars everyday. If they printed a bunch of big bills they could pay off the national debt. That is the way I am thinking. It would save us alot of heart ache right? They print this money I think...

dawn1013 The money printed in a government is relevant to the silver or gold that they have. Printing money can be done by anyone who can have access to the machinery of money making, but if it doesn't carry an equivalent silver or gold, it doesn't have any value to it...
