Why do onions make our eyes water?

My husband is in the kitchen, chopping food for dinner. He was just complaining about the onion burning his eyes. I am sure there is a good scientific explanation for it, but why do onions make our eyes water?

gfineday2008 i don't do any reaserch on this,and i don't know why.i like onions very much,and everytime i chop onions,i was forced into tears.and i learned a small tip that if you drop some water on onions before you chop it,it won't make you feel terrible.

gfineday2008 i don't use any chemicals. i think natural beauty is healthy ,safe and looks more beautiful. maybe by using some chemicals can help you keep young and beautiful ,but in the long run,it must be hurtful to our skin when we are geting older.some of news i heard...

Sometimes when we're really down, we do things just to lessen it. In my case, I ask my friends to eat or go out for a coffee. When I'm alone, I bake and eat a lot. When i'm in my room I go for music hopping.

me yah i love it,you know i am living on mountainous place...so if theres no time to buy meat, or fish or any food at the market we used to cook vegetables... it really helps me...i mean i become healthy just because of it...

gfineday2008 of course,when they have spare time,children can help their parents do sth they can.it is a good opportunity to share the burden of parents,and to learn how to work,how hard they work to make money. but not too much,just sometimes.

gfineday2008 to be honest,i prefer Desktop pc. if you put it in your office or home,desktop PC is convenient.the keyboard is bigger,and if there is something wrong with the computer,you can fix it yourself. but if you travel a lot,maybe laptop is your best choice.

gfineday2008 well,it is normal in our country.many organations hold a meeting,then organise the participants to travel around.when i was on business,if time is permitted,i would choose to travel,why not?it is a great fun for me while on a long boring business trip.
