is it cruel to have a dog if you work full time?

i love dogs and would love to get a westie but cannot bare the thought of it being home alone in the day. It seems quite popular for people to have dogs even when they work full time so am i just over reacting?

I have realised that i haven't done anything 'new' for ages! What does the mylot gang do to keep life interesting? Any strange and exciting hobbies you want to let me in on?!!!
