When is it okay to not tell the truth?

Do you think it is every ok to not tell the truth? I am not saying I would lie about something, but if you know the truth is going to hurt or upset someone, should you tell them or keep it to yourself?

I would only lie to not hurt someones feels and help them feel better about them selfs
