How to create a remote control?

Hi, I am trying to create a remote control but I am not sure what components and design to make it possible. Anyone here have the experience to create a remote control? I hope to learn more about it. Thanks.

kasimachi You can make either IR remote or RF remote. IR remote is more simple than RF remote. If you know about microcontroller/microprocessor, you can easily design by using 8085,8051,8951,pic,ect. If you dont know about programming, then use a DTMF decoder and ecoder...

kasimachi It is pronounced as AACHI not ACHI.
