mrslitz Kids should know boundries, and mine does. You don't have to spank to discipline... or to teach boundries. Just as Celanith said, "It is quick..." I think many people spank for just that reason... they don't want to take the time to try other methods.

mrslitz I don't think spanking is effective. I think it instills fear in a child and nothing more. They won't misbehave because they are afraid. Not because they know their action was wrong. I want my children to fear consequences, not my hand.

mrslitz Oh, and I'd like to add that if I had asked my friend to watch my child, I would go over what we use for discipline before I left just as I would with any sitter. If I got back and they told me they struck my child, I would no longer be friends with them....

mrslitz I think that some part of them knows. But even if they don't, then you are a good friend to bring it to their attention. I wouldn't confront them about it, just when they come to pick their kids up and they ask, "How did everything go?" Be honest... "Well,...

mrslitz They were very easy to take care of as a baby... really! The main draw back now is that her hair is much longer and sometimes gets tangled in her earrings when she sleeps. We never had aproblem with her tugging at them though....
