The subject and lighting go hand in hand, I have always been able to 'see' the picture before I take it, or 'see' a picture and grab the camera. One of the important parts of photography is the perspective, whether you emphasize the lighting (such as a sunset)...

Both should be focused. The composition of light and subject makes the image beautiful. For instance, if you are taking portrait of a person in a tense light at background, you need to balance the exposure so that you can see the face of the person clearly....

I photograph the subject with the light hitting the subject. That's just me. Sometimes I take too long to get the picture just right I think. The result of a good shot can come from being spontaneous without planning once in a while. I think through your...

I always pay attention to the light so i can make the most important decision first.Whats a photo with bad lighting? Secondly I think the subject and the light go very much hand in hand.
