I saw a posting where someone said to use vinegar to clean out your microwave. How it works: Put a bowl of water and a bowl of vinegar in the microwave for 3 minutes. The vinegar kills the smells while the steam loosens everything. I did this and went in there to wipe it out when the timer went off. I couldn't believe how well it work. Here I am all this time buying expensive cleaners and scrubing like crazy when this is the easiest way all along. I just wanted to share this with everyone. I'm so excited (and easily amused lol).

Vinegar is a wonderful thing, I reas somewhere that there was a test done to clean kitchen benches with a few products you could buy from the supermarket and one of the other things was vinegar, the results were the vinegar killed bacteria better than any other product tested...

That's great to know. I love using all natural cleaning solutions and avoiding the expense and toxic chemicals of most commercial cleaning products.

oo!! i had to respond her. i used to watch this show called " how clean is your house" and they did this neat thing with vinegar. they soaked paper towels in it and then wrapped it around bathroom and kitchen fixtures, (faucets and things) and then sealed it up by wrapping a sandwich bag around THAT and closing it with a rubber band. you leave it for 3 hours or so, and when u take it off everything is all shiny and new looking again. also, another weird cleaning tip i remember is you know how you use paper towel to clean shower doors and windows and things with windex? well use newspaper instead. it'll clean it just as well, and it wont leave streaks:)

Thanks for the hint. I also get excited by anything that makes my job easier, and I like having a clean microwave. I'm going to try that next time my microwave needs it. I've been using baking soda in warm water to clean mine, and then I rinse it, but it takes about 15 minutes to do a good job. Yesterday I was over at my daughter's house, and I noticed that her microwave needed cleaning, maybe I'll sneak over there and clean it while she's at work. I just have to try and see how it works, and I can't wait.

LOL nothing wrong with being easily amused. I'm going to try this out today. I think something exploded in our microwave. Did you use plain white vinegar? Thanks for sharing the tip.

Vinegar works on so much more than just your microwave. Here are some examples: Clean out your fridge with equal parts water and vinegar, you'll be amazed. Use vinegar to clean the bottom of a scorched iron. Get your counter tops clean and streak free use full strength vinegar wipe the counter over and then buff out with a paper towel. Clean you stove top. Get rid of rust. Clean windows and mirrors. Just to name a few. I always buy it by the gallon. I love it. I even make salad dressing out of it.

Is this great. I have done this many times myself. I to read it somewhere on line! I also saw on the tv that it is okay to wash your kitchen sponges out as clean as possible. Then wet moisten with water put in microwave on full power for 2 two 3 min to kill any remaining germs. I have done it a couple of times when my spong is still fairly new. But I dont' know how good it really works. So of course my sponge goes to the garbage before to long just in case. Have you heard of the sponge cleaning trick?

Oh I'm going to have to try this. I hate trying to get the stuff off the top. It never wants to come off. This sounds great. I have vinegar. Love the stuff because it does work so good and on a variety of things. I'm easily amused too. If I find something that cleans and cleans easy I'm over the roof :) So you aren't alone there.

I love to read that someone actually tried this and it really worked. Now I'm going to have to get out my bottle of vinegar and clean out my yukky microwave. You're right, those expensive cleaners don't do much and they can't be very good for the environment. Thanks for the post.

Vinegar is an amazing thing. But I knew nothing about the microwave until now. Looks like I'll kiss all those harsh cleaners goodbye. Thanks so much for sharing that piece of information. Believe me this will save my time.
