What is your preferable method of birth control? I have an IUD but recently i have heard that IUD can cause you to become sterile? does anybody know if this is true?
if it is not i feel the iud is a great choice of birth control though the only problems i have had so far is bad menstrual cramps (went away after like 7 months) and other than that its great!!
I would like opinions on other methods especially if anybody can tell me if IUD can cause a woman to become sterile after removal????

I am quite sure it does not cause you to become sterile. I have one too and have had no problems. I'm sure it can have it's side effects just like anything else. I was taking pills, but they caused me to have high blood pressure, so I quit taking them. I have heard that it can be harder for you to get pregnant after using the IUD, but my doc told me that it was unlikely.

IUD's are not the best form of birth control, you basically inserting a foriegn object into your body to move around and scrape you uterus.

I have and still use birth control. I now use the nuva ring but before I used the patch. I knew when I first started using birthcontrol I would not take the pill when I was suppose to so I opped to take the patch. After all of the horror storeys with the patch i changed to the ring. The ring is great. You put it in once a month, take it out after three weeks, go a week without it, then put it back in. It's simple and u bearly have to think about it. I'm afraid of using the IUD becuase they do say it can make you sterile and I don't want ot become sterile. I want to have 4 kids so becomming sterile is out of the question. I hope that you don't become sterile (if you don't want to). I recommend the ring if you decide you want to change birth control. Good luck.

I'm on the birth control pill. I had to try a few different brands before i found one that the hormone types and hormone levels worked for me. I like it because its save and really effective. IUD's scare me a little because every woman I have every talked to who had one seemed to have problems with it. Plus, i just don't like the idea of that contraption sitting in my uterus. I don't know if it can cause infertility problems or not, i don't really think it can, but i know it can cause female health problems like heavy, painful periods and the like.

My wife is using IUD because she tends to forget it when she's taking pills, there must be a statistic if it really does make women sterile, my wife's only problem is her menstrual period which tends to be so heavy after a week of spotting but she said it's alright with her as long as she don't get pregnant anymore after giving birth to two (2) kids.

I've never heard that the IUD can cause a woman to be sterile. But then again, just about anything can affect fertility making it harder or impossible to get pregnant.
I was on the pill but had to get off due to health reasons. I never, ever want kids and refuse to live like a nun the rest of my life, so I got a tubal blockage done about 5 months ago. Couldn't be happier! No kids ever!

I'm a very forgetful person and after giving birth to my son I seem to be even more forgetful lol. I'm taking monthly shots. It's the best contraceptive yet. And also it didn't give me side effects unlike when I was on the pill. I'd loose/gain weight and I always felt sick.

I know someone who is using an IUD but I'm sure it's ok if she becomes sterile, she already have 5 kids. Anyways, all contraceptives have side effects, except for the natural ones like rhythm, so I gues it's the risk we have to take. I'm drinking Oral Contraceptive Pills, and some say that it can cause miscarriage when you decide to get pregnant if used for a long time. Yet there are no scientific evidence of such sayings, I would suggest for you to ask a doctor, not your doctor of course but another one for you to receive a unbiased opinion. Take Care.

i have never or will never use birth control or iuds, yes they can cause cervix cancer, toxic shock syndrom, and for a long time use cause infertility, it is not normal to mess with ones hormones, or to stop the flow of old blood from coming out, the pill also increases heart dieases when you smoke, try using an ovulation machine, most women only ovulate 3 days in the month, i have been doing this for years and its worked for me.

the IUD (inter uteral device) is meant mainly for women who have had at least one child already, as it makes it somewhat easier for the medical staff (whether a doctor or nurse) place it correctly.
there has been no medical proof that it causes women to become sterile, however there are cases of them not getting fittet correctly, and then they can do minimal damage.
personally i use the pill, and i have done for years, originally it was to regulate my periods, but eventually i just got used to taking them, and am happy to do so.
i did go to have an IUD fitted when my son was about 1, but because of complications after giving birth i can't have one.
my mother has had IUDs fitted (they are replaced roughly every 5 years depending on the type) and she has never had any problems, she never fell pregnant while using them and has been assured that if she ever decided to have more children she could (much to her own horror lol, she's almost 49 and has 6 kids alread :P)

I used to take the Depo-Provera shots. I loved them. After the second shot I had no periods the entire time on them. Then my husband got snipped so no need for birth control. I miss the shots I hate having periods.

I have never heard of the iud making anyone sterile, however if you ask you're doctor i am sure he/she would give you the correct info and perhaps even change you're method of contraception, depending on how you'd react.
I use the contraceptive pill, however changed the particular type, as i got pregnant on the first lot i was given! doh!
So i cant exactly promote that to you!
However with this one i havent had any problems, in 12 months! So i am starting to feel it is a bit more reliable! good luck!

I use the pill, it helps to regulate my periods, but I'm so bad at remembering to take them on time. Luckily I have not gotten pregnant, since we cannot afford to take care of one. But I wanted to try the IUD, but my doctor told me it would cause more harm to me, so I'm stuck with the pill. If the IUD does cause that, it dosen't sound like a good method. I hope you find the answers you're looking for.

I am 99 percent sure that the IUD does not cause you to become sterile unless you use it for an extended period of time (I'm talking like 10 years). I was on the pill (ortho tri cylen Lo) which I do not recommend. I went in for my yearly check up and to get my birth control refilled and found out I was pregnant! I cannot complain now because it gave me my daughter but it was a long battle to get to that point! As I found out in the appointment, taking a Lo level of birth control makes it very easy to get pregnant if you don't take it at the exact time everyday. Apparently a change of a couple of hours is enough to throw your cycle off. And, the no longer make regular ortho tricylcen, only the low hormone leveled one. That said, as soon as I start back on birth control (boyfriend is on the other side of the country right now so no need until we reunite) I was thinking of going with the patch. You only have to remember to change it once a week and it's just as effective.
