When do you think discipline is needed?

Discipline can come in various ways but I never agree with spanking. So what do you think is bad enough for discipline? and what do you do when the discipline isn't working?

Reward when doing something good, take away when they don't. Simple.
The only time when I got spanked when I was a kid was when I lied. Lying probably deserves a spanking, IMHO.
