Now is summer time here in the Philippines. The weather is hot, the sun is high and all the children are mostly at home or outside playing.
Here are two delicious typically Filipino's desserts with a twist, which your children might enjoy preparing and eating too. And it would keep them busy and away from bathing under the sun's heat. I hope you'll like them.
Recipe 1: "Chocolate Yema Balls"
Ingredients:
3/4 cup condensed milk
1 1/2 tablespoon cocoapowder, unsweetened
1 tablespoon butter or margarine
50 g peanuts, ground (optional)
How to prepare:
1.In a pan, combine all the ingredients over medium heat.
2.Cook, while stirring until thick, for about 10 mins.
3. Remove heat and let it cool. Form into small balls and roll in ground peanuts to coat.
Best served chilled.
You can also served them wrap individually in colorful food wrappers; to give them a beautiful and appetizing setting.
Recipe 2: "Polvorinas"
Ingredients:
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup white sugar
1 cup powdered milk
1 can (234g) Fresh cut crushed pineapple, well drained
1/3 cup margarine or butter
2 pieces Japanese paper, cut into 5"x4-1/2" pieces
How to prepare:
1. Toast flour in carajay/pan over moderate heat until golden brown. Cool. Stir into a mixing bowl, then combine with sugar and powdered milk.
2. Simmer Fresh cut crushed pineapple and margarine for 3 minutes. Allow to cool. Blend with flour mixture.
3. Mold with Polvoron molder or any small recipient of any form. Preferably round or oval shape. Then chill. Wrap each piece in Japanese paper. Chill until ready to serve.
You can also pack them in multi-colored gift bags and colorful ribbons. They are great for give aways.
Happy cooking! and enjoy a taste of Filipino's desserts! (^^,)

Hi hikarushidou! They taste better with chocolates. I'm not that fond of the one with only milk. But this chocolate yema ball recipe is a winner. Happy cooking and eating too! (^^,)

LOL, aphroditei, I probably should skipped this discussion. I didn't know you had posted this one as I just posted my new thread a few minutes ago. I am not a sucker for sweets. I prefer something a little sour. There is something about those sweets that heightened my migraines. Sure, I can indulge myself a few treat of sweets but I'm not really looking forward to it. :0

Thank you for sharing this recipes. I love yema balls but this one with the chocolate adds a twist to it...so I will try to make them one of these days. I love polvorons too and I order it online as much as I can. One thing I miss during summer in the Phil is the halo-halo. Nothing can compare to the halo-halo back home where it is all made from fresh fruits. I am salivating just thinking about it. Even plain buko ice candy taste so good during summer...=)

It is such an awesome recipe that you have shared among all of us here. the forst thing that i dis even before responding you back was to save all what have given. it is simple, so easy , so fast to cook or make what ever you say, that can make it in minutes. i will make the first one first, because i am all the things now at present in my kitchen. i dont have to hunt out in the market to buy anything where as in the second one i have to go and search for a nice pineapple. so i am making this first one. wish me good luck i hope i can make it the same as you make, because it sounds so easy that i person like me who wanna do something or the other while sitting at home at times, will love to make thins. thanx again for sharing this and i am rating you with a plus , +, for this.

Oh, thank you Aweins. I'm really happy you like it. And don't worry for the second one, you can skip the pineapples. It will still taste good. Pineapple is an add on to bring a twist to it too. You can also replace it with peanuts, chocolate powder, rice pops or crushed chocolate cookies. Quite anything.~lol And I'm sure, you'll make them better than me. Enjoy! Happy cooking! Please, keep me posted on how it goes! Thank you so much Aweins! Have a great weekend! (^^,)

I'd like to add also HALO-HALO which is best to eat during this summer. =) Amongst all the restaurants that serves this dessert, ICEBERG & Magnolia House are one of the best that caters HALO-HALO. =)

Hey Aphrodeitie, the polvorinas sounds delicious,I am going to try it very soon.I make a fudge with using almost similar recipe as the yema balls.but never tried using peanuts before. Will try this too.Filipino food is something I have never explored before. Can you send me some sites which have real authentic filipino recipes?I am a vegetarian and am looking for ways to incorporate more fruits into our diets.Pineapple is one of my favourite fruits at any given time.I like pinepapple slices with a sprinkle of salt and black pepper-tastes awesome!

I hope you'll enjoy the taste of Filipino cuisine. Most of my recipes are diverse collections of labels, written recipes, tv shows..etc. But, just now, I have found a site for you. They have great Filipino recipes. Oh, there are many more. I'll search thoroughly first, especially on vegetarian filipino food and I promise I'll Pm you the link later. Thank you Nageswari for your appreciation of Filipino cuisine. See you later! (^^,)
