As of late, with the school shootings and what not, we have seen antidepressants in the news and the debates about their safety and usage. I would like to hear what your experience is if you take them, or your thoughts if you don't.

I take Lexapro to regulate my mood swings in relation to my bipolar disorder, and I can honestly say that I wouldn't be the person I am today without it. I've seen what I'm like without my medication, and it's truly a scary thing. I believe that anti-depressants can be highly useful for some individuals if they're prescribed correctly in addition to counseling.

I must agree. I myself are on a few meds for bipolar and it saved my life. Good Luck!

I take an antidepressent that also doubles to help with my insomnia. I am so thankful for this medication! I'm angry that the doctor cut me down to one pill a night instead of two, because I'm back to emotional breakdowns again (less often than without meds of course) but I'm still sleeping better because my mind isn't going a million depressive miles a minute. I believe it depends on the person, not the impairment.

I can safely say that I have never taken them, well not that were prescribed to me. Took a lot back in my partying days though. My mom used to take them and they did having a calming effect on her. As long as they are taken when and how they are meant to be, I don't see any problems with their usage; they can actually help a lot of people out.
