Today when I was about to eat a hamburger...

I was looking for ketchup, and I could not find any. I thought well that is odd because we always have ketchup. Then I started to think man the hamburger is not going to be that good without ketchup.
Well I went back and checked again and found the ketchup. The reason I'm writing this is I learned a valuable lesson from this experience. After I found the ketchup and I thanked God for it because He brought to my thought of all the people that don't even have a bottle of ketchup.
People that have no food at all. That I should be thankful that I have the food that He has blessed me with. Even if some people may have a little bit of ketchup and nothing to eat with it, no bread, nothing.
So the lesson that I learned is so be thankful for every little thing in your life. Be thankful to have ketcup to go with what you like to eat, because the things we have are a blessing and not everyone in this world has the things that we take for granted: like food.

It is so true that we need to try and rethink things that we see as 'terrible' on a daily basis. Someone once sent me the best thing in an email. I can't lay my hands on it right now, but it went something like: "Today, rather than complain when I have to sit in traffic, I will be thankful that I have a car. Today, rather than complain about my boss, I will be glad that I have a job." Today, rather than complain about having to cook dinner, I will be glad that I have the means to cook dinner. I think you get the gist. It went on with some of our most common complaints. It really made me think twice about my blessings!

It is so true, we take far too much for granted!
I was brought up on a farm and so do not believe in wasting food. There are so many people, even here in Canada and the US who struggle daily to feed their family and keep a roof over their heads...
We need to be thankful and look for ways to help out those in need as well!

You are right. There are many people starving in this world still that they would be more than happy to even just lick the paper your burger is wrapped in. Ketchup? They have probably not tasted it, unless it was the leftover from a packet they found in the trash bag. Bless be.

Not only does my daughter smother every meal in tomato ketchup but she is also wasteful. I try every day to get her to see how lucky she is and that she should not waste food. She is a teenager and just says well I should eat it then. I remember telling my mum at a similar age to send my leftovers to the hungry people then as I did not want it. So I suppose it runs in the family. I wonder if she will be going through the same thing with her daughter one day.

My friend I use to live with many years ago had a child like that. She was wasteful, disrespectful and just didn't care. I don't what she is like now. I lose contact with them. They move around so much. My sister here on mylots knows who I'm talking about.
I think your daughter will grow out of it. At least your trying to teach her. I don't think my friend tried to teach her daughter. I lived their and never heard her trying to teach her to not be wasteful, but I could be wrong.
Well I did hear her one time getting on to her about wasting water and laundry soap just to wash one pair of jeans. She would not adjust the water leverl or anything. She washed one pair of jeans in a full water level. We caught her several times doing that. Their was many clothes their to throw in with her jeans, but she just thought of herself.

This is so true, I am thankful for what I have in life. I see my neices and nephews who have children when they are too young, and then those babies suffer because the parents don't have enough to feed them most of the time. I am thankful that I am able to help out each month. But, then you see documentaries on the starving people all around the world and it makes you think how lucky you are to have food available to you at all times. I know that we take for granted what we have, but I try not to, escpecially when you see something like that on TV.

very well said. We are very lucky that we have that hamburger to eat, with or without the ketchup, so many people have so much less.

Good point! We take so many things for granted. We have running water, indoor bathrooms, air conditioning, heating, food, a house over our heads, a job, a car, clothes to wear...the list goes on. I try to remember to thank God for my blessings fairly often. Thanks for the reminder to do so again! We also have our health and our minds and the opportunity to learn and to grow and to be creative!

Amen, this is something I remind myself daily and try to teach my children and grandchildren. We have a roof over our heads, cloths on our backs, food on our table, and freedom to worship - there are millions in the world who do not have all of these things.
True we don't live in a mansion, or have designer cloths, or eat steak daily (or even weekly) but we are blessed in so many ways who cares about the material things, thank the Lord for that burger and eat it with mustard for a change.

Well, now you made me feel real bad. When I first started reading this, I was thinking of suggesting you just put mayo on the burger, and you have to go off and turn your discussion into a really nice thought. lol
Good discussion though. It's certainly something we should keep in mind. :)
