I love to eat food in banana leaves as my mom says that its good to take food and give away the leaves to cows.We have plantain trees in our backyard and so often we cut leaves from it for use.we also use these leaves and place the items prepared for pooja during some festival days.
In tamil nadu most of the marriages people use these leaves for serving food to the people attending the marriage function.its a custom here to serve but nowadays due to the change in pattern of eating its use is detoriating and i have seen usage of artificial banana leaves in a marriage function which i attended recently.

Actually it is myth that banana leaves are pure and 2nd thing is in previus days there was not much avaliability of crockery items and if u have to serve food to atleast 100 people it is very difficult to arrange crockery in villages. So alternate is banana leaves. did u get my point?
Pls reply.
bye

I agree but nowadays even in some traditional or festive gathering people use it. However your logic is very true.

Like in India , china also uses banana leaves. Fresh cut green banana leaves are used in cooking, for cooking, serving, making a dish served, decoration, etc...
In chinese cooking the leaves are often wrapped around tougher cuts of meat and steamed for a long time at low heat to impart tenderness and flavour. they even use smaller portions of leaves as wraps to make interesting finger food such as Tamales or chinese rice cakes. my hubby loves it a lot. there, leaves are folded and then rolled.
In southern india they are used as plates, and for this the mid rib is retained. what i know is that in almost every asian country the leaves are used as wrapping for food.

Back in my homeland. We use alot of banana leaves for serving or wrapping dishes, as a matter of fact we use it also alot for traditional cakes/cookies. I love it when we grill or steam some fishes using banana leaves. Some restaurant even keep this lovely traditional serving dishes with banana leaves....it also easy with washing dishes afterward....hehehe.
