To, my confusion why do we have squatters to the fact that we are all we Filipinos and we belong to this country. Can somebody explain to me please.

Squatting is putting up a sort of structure on a lot of another wherein a person and probably his family reside and that is against the law so squatters are driven out of the land which they do not own. There are many factors why there are many squatters in the Philippines. And not only economic for there are rich people who are squatters and even build concrete houses. Shelter is a basic need and so if there are any available space, persons who do not have shelter will build any kind of shelter to house themselves and their families especially if they are not forbidden immediately and then when the owner comes, he could not just eject them. Of course, poverty is the major cause of squatting because they cannot afford to buy the lot they like and they cannot afford to rent also and so many resort to squatting.

We have squatters because we obey the law. A person has to have a title of the land he owns and so if he does not own a land by inheritance, purchase, etc. he has no land which he can call his own and if he does not rent and just put up a place where he resides on a lot not his own, he is called squatter.

Squatters are those who put up a house in someone else's land, the government relocates them somewhere else but they only sell those properties given by the government and squat again elsewhere.

squatters are everywhere where oppurtunities are. filipinos are basically hard working but, we have these attitude "kahit ano, maski ano, basta kumakain 3x a day". we are where our work is. so, even if we just "squat" anywhere its fine with us. we still have this attitude way back from the spanish colonizations, we live to serve. alila still, from the government down to ourselves til this day.

there are so many uninhabited productive lands in the philippines. yet, a lot of stupid people flock to urban place s where they thought they could land a job. but when you put computers and DSL to rural areas and teach them DOTA, i bet they'd never leave their havens.

people from provinces flock the metro area, they were blinded that there are huge opportunity to work in the city but they end up, doing crimes, building their houses illegally, and they are showing that the Philiipines is a huge poor country with a corrupt and unstable government..

I agree on chase07. If you make a research on how many people would rather stay if only there will be equal job opportunities for sure nobody will leave on their places. Nobody wants to be a squatter and that's for sure. Being on the squatters area is just like gambling. You bet staying on that place in the hope you can provide basic needs to your family in the province. And everybody needs a money even if in urban areas. It is in man's nature that if cannot find what he needs on a certain place then he will look for a place to feed his needs.

i also agree. but there are many factors why we have squatters, not just because people from provinces flock the metro, consider problems like, unwanted pregnancies that populates us, this increase job demands, housing problems, two main problems that the government cannot provide well.. lack of education support to people that is why many ends up just doing crimes or picking garbage for a living. low salary, that limit the people to the extent that they can only leave in squatters, and the people itself have their own problem why they end up in squatters... there's a lot to discuss about this problem but for now we all know that politicians love these people as where they are right now.. hehehe

I think its because also of rising population. More and more people are born but out land is slowly shrinking and shrinking. Real estate is becoming more and more costlier making average Pinoy hard to afford the cost of it. Many tend to stay in other people's land not their own that's why they are called squatters.

this is due to many factors... one of which is the government. it may sound cliche but it's true... the government is one of the biggest reasons we have these 'squatters' then there are those who are too lazy to find jobs and at least go to school, they end up in the slums of wherever. and they become dependent on whatever comes their way. there's that phrase "the rich become richer, the poor become poorer" - this is what's happening in our country.

recently, that's the topic we're talking about with my father.... ....people from province thought that life here in the city especially manila is okay...they thought that if they'll go to the city, they can earn big money but the truth is life in the city is hard and very expensive...especially if u don't have a good work or own house....some probincianos are ashamed of going back to their province because nothing happened to them so they just insist on staying in the city and finding a place where they can stay...anywhere....and that is the reason why there are squater's area....
