I have a doxie. I picked him out of a whole bunch of dogs at the pet store 7 1/2 years ago. I love him to death, but never again will I buy a dog from a pet store. I will always rescue them from now on. The picture on my profile is a part collie//malamute that I will be getting in about 2 weeks. He is a rescue. His name will be Bear.
My doxie now is named Brownie. He is a black/tan with dapples. I have attached a picture of him. What a spoiled rotten dog he is though. He follows me everywhere. He cries when I leave. He is my world!!!

I have 2 male daschunds, we rescued both of them. One from the pound before he was put down, and the other one my friends neighbor had and couldn't stand him so she was going to have him put to sleep. I think they have both been abused at some point in their lives, but they both have adapted well in our family. Oscar we have had for 3 years and I swear he would be happier if he was attached to my hip! Then Hans we adopted last summer from the pound, the story was the owners had had him for 7 years and decided they did not have time for him anymore. But, he was so scared and cowered when we brought him home and tried to pet him. Now, he is over that, and they both try to bully the other out when it is time for momma to sit down. They both think they need to be on my lap, and there is not room for them both at one time. They are also very protective of me.

I know that I need to get a digital camera so that I can upload photos. My boys are both brown and they are so cute. Hans grins at us when we come home and I would love to be able to catch that on film! Thanks!

I have a Lab. I got him because the person who had him wasn't very good to him. The guy promised a friend that he would find a good home for him. After awhile, I started noticing that the puppy would run, and hide, everytime he saw people. I realized that the guy was miss treating it. Sometimes I would see him throwing things at him or trying to kick him.
Anyways, I have had "brodie for about 7 years now, it has only been in the last year that I have finally got him to come in and stay in the house.
If you ever want to truely experience how trust is given freely the first time, and then you have to earn from that point on, take in a dog like this. He wouldn't even eat from his bowl until I walked away.
Where I live, it gets cold and snowy in the winter, he still would not come in. It took my daughter to come home with her dog, for Brodie, to understand that it was okay. the moment her dog came in the house, Brodie followed, without hesitation. I really love my dog, he is the most beautiful Lab, and he has taught me alot about trust, keeping it and respecting it.
Thanks for letting me share that.

Our dogs are Shar Peis. They are Chinese dogs which are bred for fighting. But they are actually gentle to their humans and fiercely loyal. My father was the who chose to buy Shar Peis.

I have a Patterdale Terrier! named Bruiser. He is 6 months old and so hyper and cute! My fiance got him for me for Christmas from a local breeder. He is the rare black and tan type, and I think he is super smart! I had been wanting a dog for awhile and I looked up this breed and decided I liked how active and smart and cute they were so I mentioned to my fiance I wanted one but he told me no and that it wasnt agood idea, but then a week later he brought one home for me!:) I was so happy!

my dog has no pedigree whatsoever; the only thing we know is that he's 1/8 Rottweiler, haha! but we love him dearly. he's amazingly smart for a mutt...we found his mom living in the house that we were moving into, and a few years later his mom gave birth to him, and he's been with us ever since. ;) finding dogs to care for in the shelters is much better than buying one, i agree. there are so many abandoned dogs out there waiting for loving owners, its better to start with them ;)

Awww .. Rotts are great. They have a bad rep but they shouldn't. It's all in how they are raised. Great rescue. Do you have pictures to share of him? Rescuing is always the better way to go!

I own two miniature pinschers. My 5 yr old female named Daisy was bought from at an auction house. She has a long story about her. But to make a long story short. I am glad I bought her because she was used as a breeder. She was stuck in a cage and ndver allowed out. She still runs in circles because of that. My other miniature pinscher is a two year old male named max. We bought him from a breeder for my middle childs birthday. He is an orny little cus. But I love him to piece as well. If I ever get another animal I would like to get one from a local shelter or a rescue group. I sure don't want puppies or in the mood to raise another puppy. Both my dogs are very well mannered and take to strangers rather well. But it is because I raised them to be that way.

We have three dogs right now. The first one is our resident senior citizen, a Chihuahua/Fox Terrier mix who will be 15 this year. I got her when I was in middle school because I wanted a small dog. When we inherited my dad's house, she was still living there, so she came with the house. *LoL*
The other dogs are both Australian Shepherds. The older one is a year and a half and the younger one is three months old. We got them because we spend a lot of time riding our horses and helping our friends at their ranch, and the dogs help with rounding up cattle.

I bet. German Shepards are smart as anything. I think that is why they use them as police dogs most of the time. I have a friend who owns one and he is very sweet but very protective of his family at the same time. Thanks for sharing your story!

I have two doggies, a husky and a border collie-husky mix. The husky we had since he was a puppy, and he's spoiled rotten, but the mix is a really old dog that we took in when a friend of ours moved to the city. He's a conflicted sort of dog, with the headstrong will and mind of a husky battling the loyalty of the border collie constantly. Sometimes when I call him, he fights with himself on whether or not he should listen.

The dog that I have is a Lab/Chow mix. I didn't really picked him, but instead he was given to me and chosen for me. He's really cool and really smart too. I taught him how to shake my hands in a matter of 10-15 minutes and that was one of the greatest feeling that I've ever had with him. He is also a good watch dog too, he barks at anything that moves and he is very alert and listen intently. This was the first dog that I've ever had and also the best that I've ever had. Before that I use to own gold fish.

Oh cool. I never have been successful on teaching a dog to shake my hand. With this new puppy I am getting, I am hoping I can teach him. Any suggestions or tips? I have seen other lab/chow mixes and they are beautiful. Thanks for sharing with me!

I have a boxer. My father's friend offered him this Dog, and then we find out that this race is very docile. They are very kind, and they like to play a lot.
Boxers are recommended for people who have children: they love kids. And also, as a Body Guard. They know how to guard a place!
Well, my Dog is called Sultão, everyone should meet him.

We have a 7 month old golden retriever. He is wonderful most of the time. We chose that kind of dog because my boyfriend has had 3 already growing up and he just loves them. Plus I read that they were great family animals. My profile pic is of him when he was about 2 months or so. His name is Meeko.

I have a black lab german shorthair mix. His name is Cole. He is the most docile sweet dog I have ever owned. I got him from my mom who had 3 dogs and it was getting to be too much for her. I had to recently give up my rottie so I was wanting another dog so I took him in and he settled right in. He gets along great with my 2 cats and he never leaves my side when I'm home including sleeping next to my bed.
