My nephew has got chicken pox, poor boy. My husband and i had chicken pox already. Is it likely that we will have another one again on contact with our nephew? What are the foods that are not allowed? Is there any fast way of healing it?

I had chicken pox in my late 20's. I remember, it was very painful. I was off sick for 5 weeks. I've still got the scars all over my body. I'm quite sure you can't have it again after being infected once. I didn't really have much appetite while I had chicken pox so you can feed your nephew anything he likes, even junk food if need be. I'm not quite sure if calamine lotion helped me with the itchiness but my doctor advised me to shower twice or as much as possible in a day. It is better to have it while young for sure.

No, it is very UNlikely that you will be infected with chicken pox again. It's a once in a lifetime disease, so you may have all the contact you wish with your nephew whilst he has it. Chicken pox will last between ten and twenty days and the only way to relieve the itching, as far as I know, is with calamine lotion dabbed on the spots. I don't know if there are any particular foods to be taken whilst one has chicken pox, but I do know that vaccinations are available as a precautionary measure, if the virus is in the vacinity. If a vaccinated person contracts chicken pox, they will suffer a somewhat milder version of the ailment. In adult life, if a person is hit with the virus and have never had chicken pox before, then it is normally called shingles. This is very uncomfortable and a real threat to one's well being. Brightest Blessings.

thanks for the tip. i've seen him today, and bless him, he's scratching like mad. he's 2 years old so it's hard to control. but otherwise, he's ok. thank you.

Since you already have had it, you mostly have lifelong immunity. I've only known of one person who has caught it twice.

In most cases you can't get chicken pox once you have already had it once...here is a link with a bit of information www.caringforkids.cps.ca/immunization/chickenpoxfacts.htm

chicken pox is only contagious once, except for rare cases when it was only a very mild case the first time. He can eat whatever he can handle, probably be most comfortable with soups and fairly soft foods, as in any other illness. There is no way to heal it, usually goes away within the week, just be sure not to let him scratch at it. It will scar.

thanks for your advise. i know, he keeps on scratching when i saw him. he is 2 years old by the way, so the scratching bit is hard to control. he is literally covered with calamine lotion to soothe his skin. this is helpful, thanks.
