I've been out of high school for 6 years trying to decide what I want to do, and I think I've finally made a decision but now I wonder.. how am I going to pay for this???
I don't have anything saved, can't afford to save anything right now (I have a wedding to attend cross country in 5 months), can't depend on my parents, and the idea of 10's of thousands of dollars in student debt scares the crap out of me.
So how did everyone pay for their education? Anyone have any ideas for me?

Well I am still in school and I have to pay. I have got a couple of grants and tons of loans. To date I have about $10,000 in loans I have to pay back and I am dreading this so much. I just filled out the FAFSA and that was sent to the school and the govt gives certain grants like the Texas Grant for Texas residents.

I'm working full time, but with rent, bills, food, transportation, you can't really afford to save much of anything. The cost of living is quite high where I am.

Here in sweden people get money from the state and if they need any more they have to take loans. Going to school here costs nothing, however you still have to support yourseld and that is what people loan money to..
If u have decided that this is truly what u wanna do, then I say - go for it!

You could go to school part-time until you can afford to take on a full-time course load. This may not be a bad idea since you're planning to marry in the near future. I paid for school by taking advantage of my employer's tution reimbusement plan and I only took 1 or 2 courses at a time.
I hope I've been helpful.

*LOL* I'm not getting married, it's my best friend's wedding.
My employer unfortunately doesn't have anything like that. :(

Try grants and scholarships. I applied and have received my pell grant it can pay you for your college expenses. The checks are paid in two checks per semester. Also I would try to go to EOPS they help with your books. I know in the state of California, they have the Board of Governors grant that pays for all the units you take. I would say loans, but I know you don't want to be saddled with debt. I hope this helps. Let me know if you want more information. I

It really depends...
I paid for it myself when I went to community college. If you are just starting off, you can head to a community college and get some grants or scholarships like I did... and just pay off the difference. It can be a whole lot cheaper and then, whether you choose an Associate's Degree or to transfer to a four-year University, you give yourself the ability to save some money in the meanwhile or give you some opportunities to earn some more grants or scholarships. Also, don't underestimate the assistance some college counselors can give you in obtaining funds... sometimes they have resources that we may not know.
When I finally transferred to a University, I paid for school with loans. It wasn't too bad because I had grants which took care of half of the tuition through my old community college and some grants I applied for personally.
What I would suggest is sites like icanaffordcollege.org or fastweb.com. These are excellent resources for school funding.
Good luck!

I went part time and paid for one class at a time. It took longer - but now I have my Ph.D. and I don't have debt. Scholarships also help as does working while going to school. Figure out the cost and set aside enough to get you through a semester and go from there. Make sure to talk to financial aid counselors about grants and scholarships and apply for everything you can!

Have you tried applying for any scholarships? There are all kinds of them available. I think most universities have forms for them. You might find one that you can get to help you out. If you do have to take out a student loan, when you graduate, if you go into an occupation that's in demand, you shouldn't have any trouble paying off the loan. They are usually low interest rate loans.

when i was still in high school my parents paid for all the fees.but at time goes by the fees getting expensive since you are going to higher level to study.now i already graduated from high school.in another 2 months i am gonna do degree in local univeristy.i didn't get any scholarship since my result wasn't so excellent to be offered a scholarship.
but luckily the government are giving loans to students to study in local and private university.besides study in local university is cheaper since it is under the government.so the government will pay 80 & of the course fees.so it wasn't so much burden to the students and parents.the institute will give you a loan which you need to repay back once you graduated.
if you study in private they will give you more loans since the expenses are more expensive for private colleges.but still the loan is not enough.they will give you every semester.my sister is studying in university right now.her loan money for this month is already finished.
they gave too less for second semester.it was not enough to pay for the fees also.so now my sister have to use it wisely.she always skipped lunch and eat dinner only.i pity her so much.but my parents do not have money either.

Loans and then some of it our of my pocket! I've got around $3,000 in loans for both my freshman and sophmore year so I'm not doing too bad! I hate the idea of someday paying it back too but I know that I will be able to afford it once I am out of school!

Already, I'm a college student, but maybe I am a Chineseman when you are in school ,which can't be anxious with paid for tuition.Maybe I a lucky boy relatively, but it's baneful to every college student in China. So now I am making a part time job in leisure times, which can cut down the pays for tuitions.
