Safety net and all,my 6 year old son broke his elbow yesterday on the trampoline. He did not fall off, he landed wrong (Either way it's a broken bone) So now I am reading of all the injuries online with the use of a trampoline. I want to get rid of ours. Do your kids have a trampoline? Would you get one?

We had a trampoline for our kids when they were smaller. The only mishap was from when 2 girls where on it at once. I had told them and told them that this was not allowed. I was in the kitchen preparing dinner when I heard this almighty scream. My number 3 daughter had got her ear stuck in the springs and it tore the top of her ear in half. After a rush trip to the doctors to get it stitched up she was fine. She still has a little scar on her ear 10 years later so to me that's just a warning. "Listen to your mother".

I bought my daughter a huge trampoline when we had a big yard. We didn't even have the safety net. it is just luck of the draw when it comes to injuries with things like that. My daughter never really got hurt on hers, and it was great excercise. For some reason kids just like to jump and act foolish. I have sense given the trampoline to my friends daughters and they range from 7 to 13. They have a blast on it. They haven't really suffered any really massive injuries, like broken bones. So, I guess I have been fortunate. I don't think getting rid of the trampoline would do any good. Kids find ways to get hurt regardless. I think that you might just want to counsel him on safety and the proper jumping techniques for the trampoline. If I had the room in my yard I would definitely get another one. I hope your son heals up ok and let us know what your decision was!

I'm sorry to hear about your son breaking his elbow. My neighbor just got a trampoline for her son. It has a safety net too and I hope he will stay safe. He is about 11 years old but sometimes there are other kids playing on it with him who are younger.

My husband thinks it would be great fun to have one. I think they are a recipe for disaster. Kids need to be 100% supervised on one, and only one kid at a time. even then, injuries can still happen! I saw a dog get knocked out by walking UNDER one when I was a kid. i don't want one at my house and don't want my kids near one unless they are supservised and given strict rules for safety.

My son just 'retired' his trampoline after 7 years of use. Yep he's used it hard and heavy and afraid last year it was ailing but he managed to kill it finally - 4 legs the welding has broken so he's dismantled it for good. I have always been nervous about the tramp but he (16 in a week) has gotten years and years of enjoyment, excercise, and fressh air out of it.
During the 7 very active years of use there has never been an injury of any kind, I have been lucky. This has included swinging on a rope from a tall tree reliesing just in time to land on the tramp. Setting it next to the shed and jumping off the shed roof onto the tramp. And every flip, flop, twist, and turn imaginable.
They are very dangerous though and although we've been lucky I have heard of many being hurt on them - they actually tried to kill me on it one time... Youngest & oldest sons and a friend of each (4 boys/young men) talked me into getting on it. They promised I would be on it alone but they lied - all at one time all 4 jumped on it which sent me flying about 20 feet in the air - I got off and never got on it again.

I hate trampolines. They are so dangerous. We had one about 10 yrs back, before the safety nets. A friends daughter who was 2 was on. Now a 2 yr old can't really jump very high on a trampoline. She landed funny and broke her leg! It was horrible. We turned it into our home owners insurance so we could help with the doctors bills ect. Our insurance paid and then told us that they would have to drop us unless we got rid of the trampoline. It went up for sale the next day.

I don't have a trampoline but do have the unfortunate 'pleasure' of having next door neighbours who have a large trampoline with safety net. I am amazed that the children that use it have not killed themselves yet. It seems to me that it takes them no time to get bored with straight forward bouncing so they seem to take plastic garden toys and balls, etc on to play with. jumping over chairs, bouncing with balls all over the floor, getting one child to lay in the middle whilst everyone else jumps over. it is mad and so unsafe. i believe the only way trampolines can be safe is if one child goes on at a time and even then they still need to be sensible. my main grievance with trampolines is privacy. my neighbours have a postage stamp of a garden which is dominated by a massive trampoline. all privacy in our garden was lost, they are constantly bouncing and watching us over the fence, children are one thing, but when the adults do it too it is very unreasonable. we have had to put up trellis ontop of the 6 foot fence and have had to plant conifers to try to give us some privacy, also had to put nets and blinds in every window at the rear to give us privacy in the house. very unfair things for the peaceful garden loving neighbours, can't wait for the day that they get rid of it. anyway, sorry about the rant. hope you have luck in selling your trampline...try ebay maybe. hope your son is better now and that bones all mended.
