Teachers always have found that teaching and learning become interesting and enjoyable when students are actively involved in the lesson. Their active engagement, however, does not come automatically. In most cases teachers have to find ways to get them involved. Here, if you are a teacher, would you like to tteach me how you get your students involved in your class? If you are not a teacher, I think, you must have some good ideas to help me. By the way, I am a teacher in a senior school in China, I teach English.

I have this English professor in college that I can't forget. I have learned so much from her, she has a teaching style that makes all her students participate, or should I say "forced" to participate. Every session she gives a lecture and after that she asks questions that would require us to stand in front of the class and express our thoughts on matters related to the topic. Our grades will be based on our participation so if a student doesn't stand and talk then he/she will have no grade for that session.

That's a great idea to invite the students to stand to show their thoughts in front of the whole class. Thanks a lot!

wow! the teacher should be creative. may i know what aspect of english do you teach? if spoken then you have to find topics that the students can role play in the class eg such as cosult your doctors how to keep fit, one of my group members is missing in a party and we are finding him/her, describe your friend to the security man at the gate. and what have you. you just look for topics that they have to talk or discuss in groups and you can equally get some of there topics from mylot discussions. I'm also a teacher in china, teaching lower levels, elementary and kindergarten. when the children see me coming the teachers loss control for they want me to be there and when leaving they block the door. however, i get excessively tired as my schedule is so large and involving.

You must set a motivational activity before you start your lesson. But make sure that it is related to your topic.
