I actually posted the same discussion at Yahoo Answers but they all seemed to agree that canned food is just as equally good and nutrtionally balanced.

healthy and balanced as what?? fresh?? No, unfortunately not. But it is certainly better to have it than go without when fresh is not available.
I keep canned beans of all type on hand because I will go without them for too long sometimes since it takes a little longer to prepare them.

For sure we want to consume something as fresh as possible. Take milk for example, we want fresh milk, and unless I have a cow at home to produce fresh milk everyday, I still have got to resort to milk powder instead.

I think canned food retain their nutrients. BUT there is the danger of acquiring some undesirable things as a result of food processing. Of course, they put preservatives then the container might contaminate and affect the taste of the food and not only but also pose some danger to our health. The cans might rust if they are not sold soon. In fact there are cheap canned goods on bargain sale sometimes because they are already rusting.

I dont think so. Canned foods are full of preservatives - companies which manufacture these products try their very best to maintain the products' consumability and in doing so, they add chemicals which might endanger our lives.
Also, the cans used in such foods corrode, which means, particles that have chemically decomposed from the cans could combine with the canned product, which will then be ingested by humans - that would really be very bad for us.
To conclude, I could really say that canned foods aren't healthy for a food choice. Home cooked meals are still best.

Oh. so it's not. I thought it's the same, no doubt there will be added preservatives as in all food, but I thought in term of its nutritional values, it's just the same. Normally I would buy canned tunas, sardines, baked beans, soup... no hassle... just heat it up and ready to serve.
