My heart is pounding, my head is spinning, my nerves are in shreds .............

I have just received a phone call from an employment agency that I had virtually given up on. I spent the next fifteen minutes doing a telephone interview and at the end of the conversation the guy said he would get back to me today and that if possible, could I start work on Monday morning. He was very positive that I was perfect for the job and while I know I shouldn't get my hopes up again, I have a really good feeling about this one, particularly having been unemployed for such a long time.
I am now feeling like a cat on hot coals, I can't sit still, I can't concentrate on my keyboard, right now I am so jumpy that I feel like stretched elastic. I really need to calm down now, relax, breathe, settle down, but inside I am hoping and praying that I get this job. I am excited and happy, sick and stressed, I can't wait to hear the good news.
How do you react in these circumstances? do you keep a calm, level head or do you get so jumpy you can't breathe. How did you feel when you got the job you wanted? Happy, pleased, laid back, tell me

That's great news! I hope this comes off for you.
I would also say that you should concentrate on preparing for the job, then celebrate if it's confirmed. Try searching for the employer on the internet and gather as much background information as possible. That will be like a head-start and the employer will love it if you know about their business and what's been happening there.

First off let me say....Good Luck. I'll be in that position come Friday, I have an interview (in person) for my dream job! And hopefully I get it! I do get anxious during the 'wait and see' time frame, but I just try to stay busy, I also have a part time job in the evenings which keeps me busy, or I clean house or find something to do, also taking long walks helps me to stay calm. I figure I have a good shot at it, but ya never know who your up against and what their qualifications are. I try not to get too excited or get too hopeful, that way if I don't get it.......I don't take it as such a big let down, however, if I don't get this one, I will be really disappointed. But some things we have no control over, but as long as I know I gave it my best and put 110% into it, then I don't get too disappointed.

YAY!!! I think it's a good time to be getting excited hun. i know you've been wanting a job for so so long. I kept telling you it'd happen and see? I was right!! Well, almost lol.
I think it's better to get excited first because then once the hype has worn off, you can settle down with a clear head and make the necessary preparations for starting work on Monday.
Oh I do hope he called you back. He did right?? You got the job??

Hi, Recycledgoth, I know the waiting time is so hard to spent, even harder than the interview itself. Because you can do nothing while you waiting! I am unemployed for a long time too. I have the same feeling with you. Anyway, Congratulations!

A day has passed since you posted this and I am hoping that you got the job and are thrilled. Getting the job that you want or getting a job after being unemployed for a long time is a wonderful feeling. It will allow you to feel more independent and fulfilled that you are able to support yourself. I wish you the best and hope that everything comes out favorably on your job path.

Go ahead, dance and be happy, jump up and down. Why not. These moments in life are here to be treasured, anything that makes you excited and gives you a rush is good - what's wrong with that?
Congratulations. It's normal to be a bit tense. Breath evenly though in case you get too hyper and can't control yourself! HAHAHA. Good luck, I hope it works out for you.

Congrats!!
I think it is alright to get excited. This is like getting your first job. I remember myself getting all hyped up when I got my first job too. But after being hyped up a while, do be calm and start preparing what you need to prepare for the job.
God bless.

Hello, recycledgoth, good to hear that.I know the feeling of waiting for something, you cannot think of something else. You have to calm down and talk to him in a usual voice when he will get back to you. You should be happy at this moment, you will be eveb happier if you get the job. If i were you , i would also be happy but not overjoyed,I would celebrate if I got hired.
Anyway ,good luck and we will wait for your good news.

Thanks hun, (hugs) actually being considered is something of an achievement for me, especially as most of the time employers don't like taking on older staff these days

a "watched" pot never boils.
Don't do that. Try to forget about it for a little bit. Go out, have a cold drink and breath a little. Don't get worked up.

Having been unemployed for such a long time it is hard for me to remain calm right now. I think a cup of tea might be a good idea though

I am exactly like you, just a bundle of nerves over news like that. i have even given myself an anxiety attack before and a family member had to calm me down and get my breathing more steady and relaxed. All of the what if's would surface in my mind. Just relax, if it's meant to be, it will be. I am praying for you.

i was ecstatic when i heard i got my first job. then i went down to lunch with my folks , and nonchalantly dropped it in the conversation. they too were happy for me. but i guess the were also wondering why i was so calm about. if they only knew i was bursting inside . i guess that's just how i am.

dont worry, it's just a normal thing when it comes on job seeking! everybody experienced that..when i learned from the HRD that i got my job, i cannot beleived that I'm hired. i felt so happy and worried at the same time. I'm happy because i no longer belong to the unemployed citizen of the philippines! worried, coz this is a corporate world baby! you cannot laid back, relax and wait for your payday! you have to work, what you have earned..
