what can you get from university?

recently , i was confused by my university life.
i make a great effort to enter the famous university (at lease in beijing).but what i get here is a great
distance from my thought before .
what useful knowledge can we get from the class?
just a small little.
what we get from the textbook is outdate .
a teacher told us that the book we use now is quiet similar with his used 20 years ago.!!!!!
those idiots (the officer of education) even don't want to renew the textbook.(what are the reasons)
we are told that we got the education of diathesis in the campus.
and i think it is nonsense and rubbish.
if i don't want to further my study as a postgraduate , what can i do when i leave the school several years
later.(of course , we can learn the knowlege by ourselves , but what the university built for? just for offer the
place of self-study)

It's an interesting topic. This world is full of change and unexceptable. Most of us belive getting a degree from university will be much better than those who don't have it. But, as you all over the world see, we know some guys who have not educated very well finally succeed in that field of business after years of hard working, while someone holds a degree just found so difficult to find a job!
I think the problem is how much your capacity and passion is and how much do you familiar with the business you'd like to take on. Personality and Communication skills will be important, too. So, I think university degree is not such a big deal.

graduating from a prestigious university could help you land a good. especially if you graduated with honors, you wont have to look for a job, the job would come looking for you.
anyway, what else could we get? they supply us knowledge, information,experience. it prepares you to whatever career your going to pursue.
however, the learning part is learned outside the university. a failure or a passing grade in you transcript of records doesnt determine that you're educated or not, or that you're competent or not.
university serves as a guide, an institution that gives you the tools or the means to survive in the real world.

In my opinion, what you can get from university is just the ability to get more knowledge and how to use them, case i think the specilized knowledge is limited. Sometimes you get a job that don't match with your major,so the ability to resolve the problems is the most important thing that you should learn in the university!

you are right,but i am a student, i think i should spend most of the time on study, but now, i have to spend most of my time on other thing.

Going to university... not everyone is suited for academic studies. It depends on what you want to do in life later on. And postgrad is not necessary if you don't have an interest to specialize in a certain area. It's a pity you have had a bad uni experience because I personally have enjoyed it, despite my occasional gripes about it.
