Has anyone here been published? Was it a story, article, poem, recipe?

Have you had anything published, besides being published online? I had a recipe published once in a churches cook book and I won a free dinner out for it. My mom had a couple of poems published. I don't know if anyone here has been published except for my Canadian friend Carol Roach aka winterose here on My Lot. Carol has had one autobiographical book published and now has a second book published. I read her first book and I loved it. She is currently writing a third book. Carol's first book 'Picking Up The Pieces can be found on Amazon and her 2nd book, Angels Watching Over Me can be found on a web site called Lulu.com. Let me know what & how you got published. How many times were you turned down? Did you submit an article to a magazine, an online publishing site or sent out work to a publisher.

I was published for the first time when I was fourteen. I won a story contest and my short story was published in Disney Adventures magazine. That was the October 1994 edition. When I was in high school, I was a writer and editor for our school newspaper. When I was twenty, I started having more poems and short stories published in various magazines and two years ago I was a columnist for Wordsmith magazine. I also have done freelance jobs such as press releases, keyword articles for the internet, and various other odd jobs. I have a book coming out by the end of the year (hopefully). The name of it is, 'Surviving Jane.' It has taken years for me to write and I am excited about its release.

Oh, I will definitely let everyone know. It was supposed to have been out by now, but there's more red tape on a first novel than anything I've ever seen! It's crazy, but I know it will be so rewarding in the end. It's worth it:) Thanks bunches.

I've been published several times. I have had several pieces published in national/international magazines, as well as writing feature articles for a local paper here in Oregon. I've also had several poems published, and a short story published in an anthology called "The Other Side of the Doorbell". I am currently working on my third novel, while trying to market my first one. I'm also working on an e-book project right now. Rejection is part of the game we play. It's kind of like cat and mouse. I don't keep track of the number of times. I love writing. My life wouldn't be worth living, if I couldn't write. I also write online content. My favorite site is Assoicated Content. They are one of the best paying sites on the web. http://www.associatedcontent.com/join.html?refer=15512 Do you write as well? I'm going to check out Carol's books on Amazon as well. I am all for supporting other writer's efforts. It helps us all.

I write for AC as well. I'll link up with you. Good for you, working on your third novel. I'm not quite that ambitious. I do love writing online though. I know Carol will appreciate you checking out her reviews on Amazon.

When I was in high school the Toronto Star published a poem I wrote. It was a rhyming poem describing one particular Toronto Maple Leaf hockey game. This spring I had a short story published in a magazine connected to our local newspaper. I was not paid for either of these. I am diligently working on my first novel and hope to get it out soon (that means in two years!). I have submitted an article to a woman's magazine, it was rejected. I submitted some poems to a literary magazine - rejected; and a short story to a Christian magazine - rejected. I have two other short stories sent to two other magazines who I am still waiting to hear from. I will look into Carol's books. Her name sounds familiar. I am Canadian as well.

If it counts, I am published on associated content and poetry.com But my favorite was 2 christian websites. The first published my poem no pay, the second published same poem asked to put it on theirs. I cant recall the url or the poem now. But I was proud. I also had a free non pay poem published in my school little poetry notebook.

I too use lulu.com. It is the best thing that has ever happened to me in my writing career. I published my first novel with lulu. I now have an eseries publishing company that publishes weely ebooks. They are almost like literary soap operas. I have been doing pretty well. I love what I do. In about another two weeks I will be done with school and my company will be my full time job. Writing is my life.

I think you will say that I cheated as I used to publish my own magazines. They were of smallish circulation (about 2000+ per issue) and I distributed them to subscribers via mail order. My main theme was business opportunities and I used to write the majority of the articles myself. It was an enjoyable period of my life but was sometimes stressful with having to meet deadlines. I always published on time. So that's my publishing experience! Mike.

I have had an article published in a magazine. About different show lacing techniques and making your own shoes. It was a thrill and since our housefire, it is gone, I hope when I am ready I can contact them and get another copy for my portfolio. I submitted it directly to them.

I've been published a few times-- first time was my entry for the Texas college freshman creative writing contest in 1981, which finished 3rd (of 1000s) and ran in "Texas Monthly" magazine. Most recently I wrote a series of six articles (on the history and use of fountain pens, of all things) for a medical periodical called "MD News." I've got several manuscripts for books (both fiction and non-fiction) "in the works," but have never been able to actually sit down and finish any of them-- the shorter format seems to work a lot better for me. I do have a fine "collection" of rejection letters from magazines and periodicals...

Three of my poems have been published but this happened long ago, when I was still writing :) Two of them were published in the school's magazine and the other one (the first one, in fact) in a local newspaper 6 years ago. I still am really excited, as I've always considered this as an achievement, maybe I sound too proud of myself, but I'm not, it's just that it was really hard those times to be published and especially at my age. When I was contacted by the editor of the newspaper I felt like the whole world became mine. I was a child but I guess I would be just as happy if that happened again :) I don't think I could ever get to write a whole book but maybe one day I will be able to go back to poetry. After all, all this superficial life we're living doesn't bring too much inspiration anymore...

I have had several poems published, nothing really great just sort of doodling for me. I don't write articles because I tend to be to verbose so I stick with short and sweet poems. Some tend to be a little deep but only if you are looking...:}
