well I just returned from the hospital after talking with dad and 2 heart specialists. he now refuses to have bypass. That's understandable as dad says he has lived a long life and is ready to go. This decision frightened me none the less. So I of course had a talk with the heart specialist and dad about the options pro & con aspects of all types of options. He has 5 major blockages. 3 on the right & 2 on the left. The 3 on the right are at %100 blockage and 1 at %70 & 1 at %80 blockage. The 2 left ones are %70 & %80 blockage. So now they are transferring him to Mercy Hospital for surgery. He decided to have stents put in. I and he understand this is not going to prolong his life. It'll just mean less trips to the hospital for the Congestive Heart Failure. His surgery is in an hours time. I'm doing a little here then heading out. Thanks all for the prayers, care, concern and your overall friendship and support. It is greatly needed and appreciated in this diffucult time.
HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Oh how my heart breaks for you. It's good you know the benifit of stents. My husband had that done also and it helped for a year or so but he still had to have the bypass to save his life. Your dads blockages are serious as were my husbands. I'm curious how old your dad is. My husband is only 59 but much overwieght and diabetic, yet the surgery was very succesful. You people are in my prayers. This is such a hard call isn't it ?

Your dad seems to know what he wants. It is rough to hear those words. I know you must be struggling because the first instinct is to repair the damage. It haven't been here to see the other discussions prior, but I will most certainly pray. God bless.

I can understand what your father is saying. My father was also like that. He has a problem with his stomach and needed surgery. But it was expensive and my father decided to let go of the surgery. He also said the same thing like your father. I hope and pray for you and your father. You are holding up well, grandpa.

i always feel sad when reading such discussions. there are times when i just skip them since it pinches my heart. especially when it talks about parents. we all love our parents and we don't want them getting sick.
sorry to hear about your dad's condition. and i hope he will still have more years to celebrate with you. he will sure have many memories with all the people he loves.
just be there for him all the time. never waste a day without making your dad feel how much you love him.
take care...

I can completely understand this. It is better, if yor Dad wishes it, to have the remainder of his life very comfortable.
An operation, at his age, would almost certainly cause added pain, & a very difficult recovery time.
In fact, some of the ver6y elderly don't fully recover from these operations.
My very best wishes to you & your Dad.

Going through the discussion and responses from the mylot friends here, I can understand that your dad shouldnt lose hope so early and their is plenty of hopes still remain thanks to the application of technology. I pray from my heart for the early recovery of your dad .I know lots of underprevileage society in the rest of the world where still even a basic medical need is far cry for them in your situation. You have lots of blessings from God that you could avail the advantage of technology to cure your Dad. I hope and pray that he will come out soon from hospital with sound health. God bless you.

I told my hubby what was going on with your dad and he is praying for him as well. My hubby has had a bad stroke about 5yrs ago cause of blockages and is on blood thinners the rest of his life. He had the angoplasty done as well. Sorry to hear that your dad refused the bypass but he knows it's close to his time to cross over to the other side where he can be painfree. Still praying for all of you, Grandpa Bob. Take care of yourself and I mean it!!

Grandpa I wish your father all the very best of luck with his surgery. Do please keep us all updated.
I have a friend who's going through this right now, and she too refused to have bypass surgery, though for different reasons. (She's diabetic and doesn't feel she'd ever recover well enough to lead a normal life)
The stents should do the trick for now though and less trips to the ER are always a bonus. Please know that I continue to pray for a good outcome for your father, and my angels are also keeping a constant watch over him too.
Hang in there!

You, your dad, and your family are in my prayers to be sure. I am glad he's having the surgery for the stents. It's hard on you I know, losing a parent is never easy. I've lost both of mine, and in-laws as well. Just know that prayer can heal and faith can move mountains. God bless you Grandpa Bob.

Congestive heart failure is tricky, with or without the bypasses. I would say that if he is of sound mind, what he is choosing is best for him. Are they asking him to make any lifestyle changes to go along with the stents? Lately there has been some question of the value of the bypass surgeries. I am praying for you, and may God be with you, and in you all.

By now, I guess the surgery's over? I hope all went well with it. I know, that you know, that I have just been through the whole congestive heart failure ordeal with my mom. I know it's hard when they've made up their minds that they've lived long enough. Please know that you and your dad (as well as the rest of the family) are and will continue to be in my thoughts and prayers. I'm here if you need someone to talk to.

Well Bob, it sounds like Dad knows what he wants and given the circumstances I say he is doing the right thing. We must consider quality of life and dignity. He sounds like a smart man.
Both of you are in my thoughts, and please continue to keep us informed.
