What is the first thing people see when they come to your home? Your lawn and yard of course!! Your lawn and yard are a reflection of yourself and your image. Many people will judge you based upon the appearance of your yard.Forget those dirty clothes lying on the couch, people don't see that when passing by your home, but they do see your lawn! OK my new home is in need of some TLC inside and outside but you can't see the inside now can you? but you can see the outside. The over grown jungle the poor fruit trees that need to be pruned, a flower garden that must have once been beautiful and a deck that cries for flowers and of course a nice place for my out door fireplace where we could spent many evening with a glass of wine enjoying some much needed rest after renovating the inside of our home. Now I know that it is not fair to judge someone just by the image of his or her lawn, but as we all know, life is not fair! So, if you want to create a good image for yourself then you must at least have a decent and maintained lawn. A garden is not as necessary, but well manicured and maintained plants are a great help.. so my first task after getting my kitchen livable and my bathroom functioning lol and my bedroom slept able is to make the yard look nice not perfect this year but at least nice. I would love to see some pictures of your yards and flower gardens for inspirations please. showing our out door firplace I just love it Cheryl

I don't know if it's just how I took this or if I'm feeling a bit "frisky" today, but I do think it is very superficial to judge someone on the appearance of their lawn. I have never done that. I can see where judgemental people would though. I keep my yard looking nice...most of the time, lol. It's been a crazy spring with all the rain we've had. I don't do it for anyone else though. I love looking at my yard, especially the back yard when it's freshly mowed and groomed. I have flowers, roses, an herb garden, and I love sitting on the back deck or by the pool and just looking out at my surroundings. My home is my comfort zone and I love it, that's why I maintain it. I could care less about what other people think about it, and if that's how they judge me, then I probably don't want them as friends or assoiciates. Sorry, just my humble opinion.

Thank you. I have a glorious view of the mountains from my back yard too. It is spectacular in the evenings with the sunset. I have some flower pictures posted in the interests section of gardening, of some of my tulips and a picture of my Peace Rose on my profile, if you want to check them out. I'd love to see pics of your new place as well. I think it can be fun, but a lot of work, fixing up your home to be what you want it to be. Hugs.

Hmmm I never really thought about that. We keep our yard mowed, and there are no trees in the front yard, so that's really about it. We live in base housing and our grass has to be kept a certain length anyway, though. We're moving this summer. We might be moving into a house that doesn't have grass yet, but hopefully not. We're hoping for a house that is 3-5 years old. If we get one without grass, we will have to take the dogs for a walk to let them potty, and our little one needs to go out 5 or 6 times a day, so that would be a pain, especially when it's cold or rainy out! Can you imagine me carrying my 26 lb baby and having both the dogs on their leashes to walk three blocks in the rain? Hopefully we don't get a brand new house! I think that most of them are for officers, though. So we should be getting one with grass. :)

We keep our lawn mowed and I like to keep the flowers in the front of the house looking nice and neat. I would like to do more to our backyard this year. I want to put in a rock garden and a small pond with fish in it But it is hard to find the time to do it

oh I love the idea of a small pond with fish in it. I can't wait to have a lawn to mow well I say that now lol. Our back yard needs to be redone with sod and stuff so we will do it at the end of the summer so next season it will be pretty lol. thanks so much for commenting Cheryl

My home is actually rented, but even so I still take pride in both the inside and out! Making sure the grass is regularly cut and the beds are dug and the weeds eradicated, it is still my home even rented and I like a nice tidy home and it gives a good impression to friends and neighbours alike. I enjoy sitting out in the garden therefore it's more pleasing to the eye to have a garden worth sitting in!

You know that first impressions are everything. This is why people take pride in the way their lawns look. We built a new home 2 yrs ago and finally have some nice grass, not dirt and mud. My husband is very meticulous about our lawn and it shows that we take pride in our home.

I can see how the appearence of your property reflects on the person you are. but as you know, living in a neighboorhood thats full of kids running around its very hard to even keep the grass growing. i have no grass because of the traffic that the kids create. someday i hope to have fountains and flowers and GRASS but until that day i guess i'll have to learn to enjoy the mud and twigs

I am SO not a yard care type of person. Thank goodness for my son who does most of the landscaping. I love to admire those that have beautiful lawns and every year, including this one, I say I'm going to do it and do it right! LOL We shall see! But I do agree, a messy, uncared for yard says YUCK.
