Becky,
This all started with about two types of mites that were attacking the bees and eventually the wild bees started disappearing. Then the hives were being attacked. Now there is a new mystery and I found an article on it.

Apparently the hives are dying off or the bees are just abandoning the hives all together.
Go check this article out and it will explain most of what is known for fact. My daughter works as an inspector in the orchards and her specialty is entemology. (Excuse me for any misspellings) I have a email out to her to see what she knows about it currently. I too, have been researching this and it is still up in the air(no pun intended).
I will get back to you when I hear from my daughter.
Great question!

No, that has actually been proven. If all the bees disappear, then man will eventually die off in about four years. The reason is because the bees are necessary for plant life, through pollination. The plant life creates the oxygen we breathe. Also, the plants provide much of the food we eat, and other animals eat, so the animals would die off as well. It really makes perfect sense. They say the Queen bees are surviving, it is the worker bees that are disappearing. I heard alot of it has been caused by cell phones and towers creating a block in the bees natural "gps type" system. It's pretty scary if you look at it and read up about it. Nice post.
