To have a failing grade in school would be the least that a student would want. So I guess I'm lucky enough that up to now, I still haven't had any failing grade in school - Thank God for that!!
How about you? Have you ever had a failing grade?
Can you tell me more about your experience?
What do you do to avoid failure in any of your subjects?

Thanks to a lot of cultural and high-brained contents and talks going on at home, I could always manage to do well at school, even without studying. I guess that's not the usual tho, because I felt like I was one of the few people in my school who could do that. =(

Thanks for the compliment =] But I really think that thought-speed can be developed since early childhood. I was lucky enough to have parents who enjoy music, who taught me how to play chess and different mind games (as simple as tic tac toe, checkers and hangman) at an early age.
It did help a lot, I think. I still think about Knights movements til this very day.
Nice discussion topic you got there. =]

Yes I did twice. I really suck at math and during 1st & 2nd grading periods in high school I failed Math, good thing my friends helped me with the assignments and tutored me after school. Until now, I still suck at Math.

I think the real secret in Math is practice. If there's something that we dont understand, we should seek help from those who know it well - so I would say you have done a great job in asking help and tutorials from you friends.

I also hated Chemistry in high school because I also think the subject is very difficult. So I'm thankful that never failed my Chem.
I also know a lot of people who's got problems with the subjects that you have mentioned - so I guess finding those subjects difficult is just normal. Maybe only additional effort in studying is needed.

I congratulate you for two things: having no failing grades and for having understanding parents.
You should be very thankful for those two things. I believe having understanding parents is one gift to treasure!!

when i was in highschool, i don;t have any failing grades.. but when i enter college, and to think that my course is engineering, and it's really hard to pass in our school because of the quarter system, you're a monster if you don't have any failing grades. i do failed a lot a times, but i'm not embarrassed about it, i just think that i need to learn some more of the subject. and besides i'm not really a studious type of person.

Well hello there fellow engineering student!!
A lot of my friends are like you - they haven't had any failures in HS but the college life made their lives miserable.
I guess with the difficulty that you're exposed to, you should try to be more studious this time because you might not want to waste money.. The times are tough these days you know..

Well, i got failing grades only in some quizzes once i really hate the subject and do not review but when it comes to finals, i did it great so there are no failing marks in my grade cards. Even in college, i always pass all my exams except for my business policy subject i got incomplete grade by not taking the finals not due to the subject itself but due to my classmates who keep bugging me all the time and my stalker is there hehehe so i did not take the finals, but anyway, i had resolved it after by submitting other requirement.

Thanks for such a note!
I think all those 'pasang-awa's' are still passing marks so there's no problem with that especially if a person doesn't expect too much about your grades in school. You must also be good because you still managed to get pasang-awas though you consider yourself not attentive in class!!
Thanks for this response!!
NOTE: the word 'pasang-awa' is by the way a Pinoy student term which means a grade which is passing but is almost failing.

When I studied in the university, I had a very sad experience. Maybe it's not that serious for others. But for me, it's my waterloo. I got the lowest score among the whole class and it seemed to be a big shame for me. So from then on, I got up one hour earlier in the morning to read. I did this for three years and I did a good job at last. Some people said I didn't have to do it. I agree that I wouldn't do that now I met such failure again. I was young and regarded it a big deal then.

In my country sometimes it's quite the opposite. From my experience, you have to be a crammer NOT to have any failing grades. Actually the whole learning system is a failure. They just throw in all kinds of classes, students don't get the chance to choose their preferences till they go to college. But until then, we just get stuffed with all kind of information that we don't need.
That's why I prefer taking a failing grade rather than boning up on a subject (don't worry, I never failed a class until now :D ).

Well I think your comment is just a little odd but I think I got your point there.
I agree that there are things which are fed among us which aren't that useful for us in our life, however, I think that's just how it is - at least we do have in ourselves some information which we may still use in the future.
It's great though that you haven't had any failing grade!
Thanks for this response!

I failed on in college that I shouldn't have. I was working full time at the same time I was trying to finish up my classes. My job was coming to an end (I was a seasonal animal trainer at Sea World) and I wanted to show them that I could pull my weight so that I could extend my season. In order to do that I had to put school to the side. I asked my professors for an extension to finish my final papers and my request was granted. That was my mistake. There was a miscommunication between my professors and I and I ended up missing my finals date which gave me a 0 grade for my final. That shot my A average to a failing grade. When you fail a class at my school you are required to retake it before you can move on to new classes, so I had to retake it and pay for the class ($800) out of pocket and to top it off, I didn't get my extended season at work! I learned my lesson thats for sure!!

i've always thought that it would be impossible to fail during your elementary and high school days.
failing in mapua (my college) is very usual. i was even scared that i don't have any failing grades yet. i failed one. logic circuits. just because i don't do assignments. i hate assignments. even during elementary days.. i hate assignments. the thing is, i was the only student who was able to understand the lessons and just because i failed to do almost all of the assignments, i failed. it's so funny for me.. i didn't take it seriously..

Wich year? Which subject? I was never good in school. I don't think I'm not smart. I just never cared for school. But, I did graduate from high school and college. In school, my best subject was P.E. and music and worst subject was math. I failed calculus, physics, chemistry, and I think even typing(because I didn't cheat). But, I ended up graduating from Massage Therapy college and is a great therapist. I'm currently teaching EFL in Taiwan. All I can say is, if you pay attention in classes and take good notes and pay attention to the teachers, you'll be fine. If I had a chance to start high school again. I'll definately do better.

I failed once in high school and thrice in college. Can you believe I failed my Filipino Class in high school? I failed 2% lower than the passing mark and in college I failed Algebra, Aesthetics and Professional Housekeeping Lab. All 3 subjects during my 1st year in college. It's ok cos I expect to fail in Algebra and Professional Housekeeping but I didn't expect to fail in Aesthetics and it kinda upset me. I tried talking to the prof but he said I was too late. Duh. I didn't expect to fail so why am I going to talk to him. When I took the class again with another prof I got a 95. See. And in Algebra I got a 97 and 75 in Housekeeping. I just don't like doing the bed. I don't do anything to avoid failure. I just give my best and exert effort. After that, I've no more failing grades. Maybe because I'm done with the adjustment period and stuff and I'm already at home with my school. I'll be graduating next year in February.

Yes unfortunately. For a while there I was doiing amazing in school, no need to study or anything, and to some extent i still am.. But I failled math last year. It had to do with me being uninterested and my teacher not helping me all that much. I dont mean to blame it on her or anything, just, the way she taught was she talked..and assumed we knew what we were doing. No step by step examples lmfao.

I had failing grades in subjects that didn't interest me. I was great on tests but the day to day work drove me crazy.
I would just try to study harder.
Now that I am adult I don't go to school but I was taking college classes. I was recieving a bad grade in a class where I wasn't interested, the teacher wasn't interested and my study partner wasn't interested. I finally decided it wasn't worth my time and took an audit.
But I was an adult with a full time job.
I don't advise anyone just quits a class because they are having trouble.
