I wanted to share with my MyLot friends that I just got a call from one of the jobs I applied for! They got my references back and would like to hire me! But, I have to go for a physical and back screening first. If I pass that, I will begin orientation on May 14th!
The work I will be doing is a PCA (personal care attendant). This entails housework, shopping, etc. for patients that are basically homebound. Helping others is something that I have always enjoyed.

Congratualations on finding something that you enjoy doing . It is so much nicer working when you are doing something you enjoy doing each day . My best friend is a personal care worker and she loves the work , she says sometimes it can be hard because what she does involves a lot of heavy lifting but she enjoys getting out each day and doing something she likes .
Best of luck on the physical and back screening :)

One of the requirements is to be able to lift 50 lb, my grandson weighs more than that and I have no problems lifting the little bugger.

Congratulations. I can see you would be suited to this job, as you are a caring person. Are most of these housebound people the elderly? My mother-in-law, and another set of aged parents I know, are receiving assistance due to their disabilities & ill health. It is an absolutely essntial service, & I know they are very grateful.
I also know that my parents will require this in the not too distance future.

That's what I am doing now, but I didn't have to do all that other stuff. Their only requirement was that I had never been arrested/convicted of a crime - don't remember which, but that wasn't hard to do, I've only had even a few tickets in my life.

I'll be honest. I'm not really a very nice person. I'm working with a friend, I don't think I have the temperment to work for a stranger.
I had been doing a simular thing during the fall with my mom until she went into the health care center full time. I didn't have to clean or cook elaberate meals for mom since she got one really nice meal in the dining room at night.
Now this friend is wanting me to make pancakes, gravy, eggs over easy. This, from me, who NEVER cooks! So far, I've made pancakes twice & didn't burn them the second time. Fried over easy eggs twice & didn't break one of them (but I have to say that I know that older eggs break easier.) Now, I can bake food really well, I can nuke food well too, but this frying stuff isn't going well, and my gravy... lets just say I haven't had much luck with that stuff!
I have to do some dusting, mopping, clean up after her when she showers, & dry parts of the body you don't want to think about....
Satisfing, not really, but its a pay check - tho I heard about a job today that really sounds like my kind of fun - doing pet delivery around the country - awesome!

Congratulations, well done on being offered the job. I guess you have to have a medical as the job sounds like it is very physical. I hope you pass, let us know.

That sounds like a wonderful job, I've been thinking of trying something like that myself. I love helping other people too. It would be so great doing a job that you love. There is a growing need for this type of service as our population ages. Good luck, and let us know how it goes.

That was my last job Disvachic. It was hard to get up in the morning to go to work and harder to stay there once I arrived. It will be nice to want to go to work and enjoy what I am doing.

That is so good, and it will be good for you. Using your natural talents and abilities, building on other experiences. You do not have any back problems, do you? Get plenty of sleep and take extra care of yourself between now and the test and you should be fine.

Other than the occasional aches and pains you get from over exersion, I do not have a problem with my back. They do require that you are able to lift 50 lbs. I do believe that I can. But, I envision them making me lift like a weight lifting pro and that scares the bejeebers out of me.

I'm late again as usual. I really hope you get this job. I think that you will like it. My neice is a PCA and she loves it. Plus I have known a few other people who did that work too.

My mother has a PCA that comes to her home to clean for her. That is how I found out about the job. She gave me a great reference too. She loves the work and told me that I would too.

If I take my allergy meds I shouldn't be bothered by the dust and mold. IT looks like a good job for me.

I know a few people who run errands for the elderly and homebound. It is great to be able to do something that helps out another person.
