It's Raining... The Drought has Broken!!

Since the night before last night, it has been raining steadily in Adelaide & throughout most of the state. It is very likely that the drought has broken. This is very exciting, as our water restrictions have been very difficult. Although the rain is not going to solve our immediate water crisis, it may mean that instead of going up to level 5 restrictions, we may only go to level 4.
Best of all is the siutation for farmers. They are forecasting 3 or 4 more days of steady, soaking rain, & this will be enough for farmers to begin their crops.
Even though it was a steady rain, drivers did not take care on the roads, & there were six deaths yesterday, 5 of them teenagers in a head on crash. Very Sad.
I may well be able to seriously consider planting more shrubs soon in my front garden.** Attached is a photo of a very excited farmer.

WOO HOO Lucky for you guys over there in Adelaide. When you have finished with it, could you please send some of that good drenching rain over here to Victoria?........ Please, pretty please
Seriously though, I think we are actually meant to get some good drenching rain this weekend in Melbourne. Hopefully it will be enough to start filling up the catchment areas again.
I'm just heading off to do another rain dance to see if it helps.

I think Victoria gets their weather from us. As SpasticSeagull said, you should be getting it soon. It is a big front.

Am so glad that is is precipitating. I hope it is a steady rain and that it gets a chance to soak in and not run off. I hope that cisterns will be full and gardens taking advantage of this bounty from the sky. It is sad to hear of the lost lives and hope the families find peace and calm. Thanks for sharing this so we can celebrate this necessary weather.

Hey, that's awesome...
Here in California, the rain has been really scarce this winter... we actually are only a little over 60% of normal water capacity in most parts of the state. We really were waiting for the big rain to come and it never really did. It's sad though, that there are accidents... that seems to happen on the roads when they are wet...
I am still hoping for one more good storm around here... i really don't want there to be a drought here through the summer.

yes i agree that this news must have really excited the farmers and they proably might be thrilled and satisfied by these rains. i very well knew the excitment and fear of farmers since india too is an agricultural country and people here too in some areas depend heavily on monsoon rains, so sometimes these rains bring luck and good fortune to the farmers, but sometimes it proabably also destroys their crops.

Here in the UK we get restrictions on water usage, but no where near as severe as you get it. It amazes me when people moan about a hosepipe ban (which is as bad as it gets here) when coumntres like yours have real problems.
I'm glad that things are looking up.

I'm glad you finally got some rain. We don't usually have much of a problem with droughts. That must be hard to deal with. Is this something common for your area?

This is great to hear. I hate when we have the dry conditions here in the states too. The water is needed for the gradens and grains of families as well as the farming communities. The prices rise soooo much due to a drought or deep freeze. As far as the water restriction it's a start at least like you said. It won't go away immediately. Well let's hope God rains on the fields for all your area nicely. Have a super day.
HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

How lucky you are. We have wild fires burning, schools and colleges closed until the smoke clears. Today there was a 30% chance of showers but they have dissipated and now there is no rain in the outlook for 10 days. We are about 9 or 10 inches below normal for this time of the year. I have the AC on as it feels so hot, the humidity is creeping up (feels like 90F)

Yes, it's looking good. I can relate to the terror of wild fires, as that is our problem in sunmmer, drought or no drought. I have been seeing some of thse California fires on TV.

I'm glad your getting rain now. We are still in trouble, as no rain in this area. People are being told not to waste water and some people are being fined for wasting water.

You guys can come take all our rain from BC if you like LOL. Every winter we get a LOT of rain. The year before last we had 30 days of constant rain.
We were one day away from breaking the record for the most number of days of rain. One of the mountainside housing estates were under landslide watch and were told to be ready to evacuate.
Our rainy season starts usually in late October/early November and continues through till late March/early April. Then we see rain sporadically throughout the year, though our summers are very dry and hot.
I'm glad you guys are getting rain finally, I have a friend in Australia (Melbourne I think) who told me that the drought situation out there is terrible. I can't imagine what it must be like living on water restrictions. Water is something that so many of us take for granted.

I wouldn't like that much rain. I come from up north, where we only ever get 7inches of rain each year. So, not thanks, I won't have any of your rain!

Hello, jennybianca,is it still raining now in adelaide?? It is a good news for all the people there, especially those farmers who rely on the rainfall to have good harvest. So what will happen actually if the water restriction go up to level 5 in your state??
Hope there will be more rainfall in your states then. (in fact the whole country).

I am happy to hear that you are getting some much needed rain. I remember only a few times where we had so little rain that we had to restrict our water usage. We had to water our gardens using buckets of water that we got from the bathtub after we bathed. It was suggested that we limit the number of flushes for our toilets. Nobody could water their lawns. No outdoor fires were allowed. The crops didn't do well that year.

What a blessing! Many places in the states are receiving beneficial rain as well this week. We all need to watch out for our resources.I am glad the rain is slow and steady, you would not want it to go to waste. It is too bad that we go so long without rain that people forget how to drive safely.
