My major is finance in univerity, I think I know pretty much of it. Of course I do stock deal. But one thing I have to remind you that the risk in is more and more in Chinese stock market. You have to pay more attention on that.
However, in my opinion, this year will be safe as well.

Hi :
Build your knowledge about the share market from scratch by reading up books about share trading which could be borrowed from your local library. Start with investment books written by Mr. William J. O'Neil, Alexander Elder. This should give you a basic foundation.
Reading the books written by the above authors would give you a good idea of what stocks to look out for. Then, do a virtual or paper trade of the stocks you've selected to see how they perform in various market conditions like - when they report earnings, when market experiences a rally or sharp correction, the company's performance in its particular industry, company's performance in different period of business cycles etc. From this, you'll develop the experiences of how your stocks and the stock market respond to each other.
Don't worry, start from the basic and take it slowly. You need time to build your knowledge and market experiences. Even I myself is still learning in my trading journey.
Yours Truly,

I let my friends handle my portfolio. They are good at it and I trust them.A 30% per quarter is great profit I reckon.Atleast I am happy with it.They have delivered even when the market slumps suddenly after the budget session or a global fall be it due to oil prizes or increase of bank interest rates.I don't follow the charts myself ,but have a basic understanding of the Stock market.

The more you know about stocks ,the more you realise the less you know about it.
That stocks are a good investment on a longer term is one thing you can be sure of,in the short term there could be a lot of losses.
The dow jones stood in aug 1987 2722 points and in october 1987 it was fallen down to 1738,now on april 2007 it has reach 13120.
