I was a stay at home mom until my boys were in 7th grade and then I went to work at their school as School Nurse and Office Manager. I worked for a few years after they graduated but "retired" two years ago and have returned to being a housewife and stay at home mom...though my boys are now in their early 20s. I really enjoyed being a stay at home mom and was fortunate to be able to afford to do so. Many women are not so lucky.

this is true, in this day and age one must get out and help provide for your household. What do you do all day at home, because I have recently tried the housewife thing and I gotta tell ya, it is a little dull. Expecially since I don't watch tv.

I'm not a Mom, but I am a homemaker. I watch two kids in my home as a part time side thing...

Daycare is expensive and if you are a single mom or you work for a lower wage than 10 dollars an hour it is nearly impossible to get by financially let alone get a little bit ahead!

Stay at home mom here..but I must say because of the cost of living these days it's hard for one parent to be at home.

that is definitely true. My fiancee and I don't even have kids and neither of us can afford to stay at home.

I am a mother of 3 girls and have been home with them from the beginning. I don't believe in someone else raising my child if I am able to do so. In other words, I am able to stay home because I have a husband that is able to support the family. I wish that all mothers who wanted to stay home was able to do so. I can, however, understand completely how moms who choose to be in the work force make that choice. It is the hardest job in the world being a stay at home mom and even moreso than that is not being around other adults on a regular basis. I would not change anything about my choosing to be a stay at home mom. I love my children and want to cherish every moment I can with them because we are never guaranteed tomorrow.

i did the stay at home when my kids were young, but now my kids don't live with me, for financial reasons. Right now I work and go to school from home, but the household is just me and my fiancee now. I applaud that you stay at home with the kids but what about when they get older?

Yes, I prefer the term "full time mum"!
I know it is hard for a lot of people to stay home with their kids but to be honest, I think many people COULD afford to stay home with their children if they wanted to. I know 20 years ago it was "normal" but now it seems most people just have children as "fashion accessories". Of course some people don't have a choice but yes there are "housewives out there" just not many it seems! I don't think I know any my own age.

I'm one.Only because i can't find a job because i don't have any qualifications.Mind you i'd rather be at home for my children,if and when they need me.Plus i'm a carer for my mum.

Hi,
I worked full time for 20 years and then decided I wanted children. So I gave up work to have my 2 beautiful darlings who are now 7 & 9 and am still at home with them, although I do work part time, but only during school hours so I can be there for them before and after school.
My mother did it for me and I will forever be grateful to her for all her care and love and devotion and I vowed to do it for my children :)
Good on you for your hard work and dedication!

me, im still a homemaker soarth to say, its a choice that i made back then, but since my child would be going to school formally by next year, i think i would have to help my husband this time to make our ends meet, and find a job next year.
thanks^_^
