Big matches are often decided by moments of brilliance,
Adam Gilchrist crafted one of the best knocks earning him the rare distinction of being the Man of the final.
a innings of shear excellence . a blend of controlled exaggeration

One thing that separates a really good player from a great player is the ability to raise your game in big matches and Gilchrist is surely a great player and has been for a decade. I mean he hadn't scored many runs coming into the final, he had a couple of fifties under his belt but he hadn't done what was expected of him in the world cup and its amazing that he was still able to come with that sort of an innings is just a testimony to his greatness.
I would also like to emphasise on Hayden's role in the Gilchrist-Hayden partnership. I mean Hayden was the guy who was in an awesome form throughout the world cup and still he decided to play second fiddle to Gilchrist whaich shows the team spirit in the Australian team. It was that for the Australians its all about playing as a team, winning matches and not about personal achievements and I think that's the reason why they are world champions in a team sport.
