When my children were young, I started them with the board game called Candyland. It was easy for them to understand. Another game my son enjoyed was Parcheesi. I'm not sure how old he was when we started that game. My kids also enjoyed playing the Old Maid card game.

we've got crazy bugs - you all wear these odd things on your head like a fishing rod or 1 antenna and dip them into a pot of bugs which magnetise on you can make the rules as easy as they need to be so everyone wins, its fun to play.

if your six year old is a boy, start teaching him battleship. you'll both enjoy the challenge and it's a great "mapping" skill that comes in second grade math! yahtzee is always fun and kerplunk is fun. our walmart is having a sale on games (due to Christmas I think) you might check maybe your is too. enjoy!

There's a cool board game called "Break The Safe" which is good because either everyone loses or everyone wins... it promotes co-operation instead of competition, and makes for a really good bonding thing... another good game for kids is Disney Trivial Pursuit... it has kids questions and adult questions...

I'm not sure if anyone has already mentioned 'OPERATION' I think it's a great game and it's funny! I also like playing connect four with my nieces then the winner takes turns...They never fight because they know how the game goes!

The best first games for kids are candyland and chutes and ladders. I found that playing games with young kids is very hard because they have short attention spans. I waited to do board games, and played shorter made-up games instead.
