The world is changing every day.Nothing seems to remain conatant forever. There is no exception with books.Being regarded as one of the most effective carries of information, books are also facing unexpected challenge.A small disk can carry more information than a book of several thousand pages can. So ,will books disappear ?

The computer is becoming more and more part of our everyday life, but we will not stop printing books.Would you search the net,and use an hour to search over 3 million documents, or use an encyclopedia and find the answer in a few minutes?Schools will still have books, and the library will still have books, so any child can enjoy reading. The book and publishing industry is booming.they have big profits and they will keep putting new and exciting books on the market. The internet is still in its early stage, and very unstable. The information there cannot be controlled.

No Julia, I do not believe the written word in hard back bindings will ever disappear. You can not curl up under the covers, on a dark stormy night and have Stephen King scare the bejevous out of you, with a laptop. You can not attain the same pleasure of sitting in the sunshine in your back garden reading a romance novel on disk. There will always be a place for traditional reading.

I think that reference books are likely to be less commen as time goes on as people will be able to find out all the information over the internet, but reading for pleasure is a different matter. Computers aren't that portable, I like to read in the bath on the train and in bed, and it is difficult to do this with a computer.

I'll make a fearless forecast. . yes, books will eventually become obsolete, but not in our lifetime. Computers, and other new technology will soon take its place and the world will not be the same again because old people will yearn for days where books were a primary source of information. If this time comes, publishers of books will run out of business and will look for alternative business that would cater to the needs of people then. . .

Even if that should happen as you say, publishers still have to publish the works. Just because a book might become available on the internet does not mean the author will go unpaid for his work.
