It's good to save receipts and keep track of spending. At the end of each month, you could enter and total them in a computer program. Then I'd shred the receipts because if you just keep saving them you'll just have a huge mess of papers.

If you don't really want to just throw them away, you can scan them onto your computer. This way you have a record in case you ever need it and you save a lot of space. You can then back them up on a disk. After back-up, you can shread the paper copy and still have peace of mind.

I think scanning them into the computer is a good idea! Since I do a lot of work that gets me income outside of my usual work, I like to keep receipts that are related to expenses that are directly related to my earning money. Also, I like to keep receipts that are on things that are under warranty or may break. Other than that, if it's food receipts, for example, I throw them away. Also, the same is with credit card receipts as a previous respondent mentioned. I keep them until the bill arrives and then I throw them out unless something is under a warranty.

hi
I collect receipts for all my credit card charges. At the end of the month when the credit card bill arrived, I'll tally those receipts with the statement, and staple them on the together and post the cheque payment.
For purchases paid by cash or debit cards, I don't keep the receipts unless I have to for product warranty purpose.
