My cat doesn't act like a real cat...

Okay, that's a dumb topic title, but I couldn't think of anything. My six month old kitten, Kenya, is like no other cat. Catnip has no effect on her whatsoever, she doesn't even seem to notice it. She never plays with her catnip toys. She hates tuna. We were out of cat food so I gave her some tuna for the time being. She turned her nose up at it. And she loves taking showers! Now I am 99.9% sure she is indeed a cat, but she doesn't act like one. What's with her weird behavior?

I have to start by saying that your kitty is so adorable. I love her markings. I have a couple of cats (out of 12!) that want nothing to do with catnip. They just turn up their noses and give me that standoffish cat look. One of my cats will actually get in the shower with me. It's a little unnerving first thing in the morning to turn around in the shower and have a black and white furball enjoying the warm water with you! LOL. She just loves it. As for weird cat toys, one of my cats loves the stick part of q-tips. She will bat it all over the house for hours on end. If I had a video camera, I would definitely tape her. It's hilarious to watch.

I forget the name but there is a breed of cat that likes water. I saw a special about it. That being said though there are some cats that do not like cat nip. Some might like it at first but the won't tuch it if it's there all the time (I think they remember the hangover :)) while others will never touch it and then you have some that play with it all the time. My brother's cat doesn't like tuna. She doesn't like any human food. Just shows that cats, like humans, can be picky about food. Sounds though she will be interesting to have around if nothing else :)

You're quite welcome. My cats like the hair ties as well. They also love the plastic ring around the milk container. They can be very silly I agree.

Hehe my cat doesn't really like catnip at all. Instead she likes to play with hair bands, like what people use to put their hair up with. She goes nuts over hair bands! It's quite ridiculous really, to see how obsessed she is with them. :P
You're right. Cats are a lot pickier than other animals like dogs. Thanks for your response!

I actually know the answer to the catnip part. Many cats don't respond to catnip until they are about a year old and my cat hates tuna too. She doesn't even like tuna based cat food. She's a little beefeater. LOL. She likes a little water on her too and then licks it off herself. My cat doesn't drink out of a bowl, but drinks out of the bathtub faucet.

Hmm, really? I'd never heard of that before. Maybe she'll start liking it when she's a little older too. ;)
It's weird how cats have specific preferences. Dogs aren't really picky at all but cats have very defined personalities. Thanks for your response!

Actually I've seen other cats before that look like her. It's a common breed of cat, but her markings are just a little bit different. She's not expensive, actually she was not costly at all because she came from the shelter. We adopted her. ;)
I don't think I need to train her. I mean, I guess if she doesn't like something, then that's her preference and I cannot force it upon her. She's like a little human I guess, with her own likes and dislikes. She's just a lot different than most other cats I know.
And what do you mean.. Don't let her step on me? And I would never feel like my beating my pets...

As for liking water there are actually 2 reasons for that:
The first is a biological reason, there are cats which decent from 2 types of areas. Cold areas, snowy climates or just cold water areas and such. These cats have an adjusted type of fur to keep on temperature more easily, but when you stuff them in water they'll cool down and warm up less easily I believe was how it worked. So these cats simply won't have any benefit from taking a dip.
Warm weather cats don't have this problem though, and they actually tend to like a dip every now and then in the wild as well.
The second reasoning is that a lot of people simply throw their cats into water or spray it on them, with the story to wash them. But this is like hitting a dog with the paper or any other item, after a while it'll start disliking it and if you continue that'll turn into hatred.
Same can be seen in kids which have been beaten as a kid, traumatized for life and certain reflexes of fright or aggression can kick in years after the beating has stopped still.
Even when not knowing it, a lot of people do this to their animals anyways. And due to that there's quite a lot of cats which hate water not because they can't stand it, but because they have grown a fear of it.

hehe She's a cutie pie!
I am not sure why she doesn't act like a cat. Maybe she thinks she justs a little furry human like most fur babies do. lol

Corn? Hehe. ;) Whenever I get myself food and sit down with it, Kenya will always try and stick her nose in it. But now she won't even eat tuna! The only thing she really does eat is her own cat food though, and the vitamin spray I spray onto it (she loves that stuff). Thanks for your reply!

Cats are such special individuals and just when you think you have them sussed out, they do something completely off the wall. Moomin will happily eat tuna but refuses all other cat food. She has had a cat nip toy which she played with for about 10 minutes before deciding she preferred chasing an old golf ball and she will sit in the sink when the tap is dripping, just so she can drink from the tap instead of her bowl. Kenya sounds fine hun, just an individual

Wow, the fact that your Kenya loves to shower is definitely not a cat like character. Cats are afraid of water. Your cat is surely weird.

Was she very young when you adopted her? Maybe her mum didn't have time to explain things to her. Or, maybe she knows cats can be contrary, so she is...
I knew a cat who liked to sit in the tub after it was drained from a bath.
