Would You Donate To Save A Life?

Not just talking about blood here, blood is part of it yes, but there's more.
There's things other than blood you can donate while your still living to save others, like bone marrow, a kidney, things like that, and many people haven't even considered the possibility of donating to help others out.
I even found out tonight you can donate your own skin, just to help a burn victim. Yes that's right!
So that brought me to asking if you would consider donating blood, bone marrow, a kidney, or even skin, to help another.
think about it this way, if your totally healthy, have enough iron, and fit the criteria, you can help someone, and that's a gift in it's self. So what would you do, and why?
I personally can't give blood, i have an iron deficiency, and to top it off, I'm allergic to artificial iron. Anyway, your iron count has to be a specific number or something, so I'll never be approved.
But it is something to consider with the other things, and I'm thinking about looking further into donations.

I already do donate hon. I am a regular donator of blood, in fact it is time to go again :) I also have the organ donation symbol on my driver's licence and talked to my husband about it. Guess what? He decided to donate his organs too!

right on, that's awesome!
Would you also donate bone marrow? or are you just sticking to what you got?
Sorry, just curious...

don't get paid here either, so it's just one of those things that you do for someone else.
You can donate bone marrow all over the world, but the chance you'll ever get a call is very unlikely because of how much harder it is to make a match.
But if it's something you wanna look into here's the link.

Thanks for the info! The only place I could go to join would be a 4 hour drive from here and I have no way to do that. I am not eligible anyway, I have chronic back pain for which I take daily medication :-/

No, I wouldn't. It is against my religion to donate any part of the body, even blood, to other people.

I sure would, I've checked my donar card on my drivers license so in the event something happens they can take anything they want.
I saw a roadside memorial the other day for a young girl who was killed in a car accident, the family put up a sing near all the flowers that said Her organs are now being used to save others so she lives on.
So its an important thing for everyone to do.

Yes, I actually signed up for organ donation a few years ago. I am set to donate my eyes when I pass away. I think to give something that's part of you in order to save another person's life or to make another person's life better can speak highly of you and can show what kind of person you are. I also want to donate my heart and kidneys, although I have yet to undergo tests for that.

that's very good of you, but this discussion is more about donating organs, and other parts of yourself while your still living. do or would you donate blood and/or bone marrow?

Hi SpitFire, it is good to see a discussion, have missed you, hope all is well. I would definitely donate to save a life! Blood, Bone Marrow, Kidney, you name it! It would be scary because I hate Hospitals, but I'd do it for sure. I think I would be a little more motivated if it were someone I personally knew, but then again a life is a life and if you save it theirs a good chance you'll be friends with that person afterwards too! Good Post my friend!

Hey hun, yeah all's good, my internet's been problematic recently, so i haven't had the chance to get to things much. Thanks.
It's nice to see that there's so many out there who will do this kind of thing, real great.
If you want to donate, and don't want to do it in a hospital, usually those health hotlines, i don't know what it would be where you are, but capital health can give you the address of where they host blood donations, which out here is all over the place, in the mall, small offices, all over the place.
Also above i got a link for bone marrow transfers.

if i was ever asked to donate a kidney i would do it in an instant, same with bone marrow, if someone needed it, i would be there...
I had a friend that needed a kidney, i would have given him mine if he would have let me...
He passed away a few months ago, in a way i wish they didn't have to sign the form, because maybe he'd still be here sitting with my hubby and i chatting up a storm if he would have said yes.
Thanks.

Yes, and I have. I give blood at least three times or more per year.

Well, in circumstances like if one of my family member needs a part of me then I will be more than happy to give my all to them especially with my children...I would rather give my life to them than save my own.. I guess I am also not very much on blood..I am also low in blood.. but I would donate if they allow. My Heart is not very good as well and my eyes are not clear..I am also thin so I don't think I have much skin to spare but I guess my other part is good to go..For other people other than my immediate relatives I guess if none of my family members need it then I would allow unless if giving a part of me to them will make me weak then I have my reasons not to share it to them because my children needs me and I know God will understand my reasons..

Hi, well I guess it would all depend on the situation. I can't give blood due to bse rules here, I had a blood transfusion some 17 years ago and unfortunately if you've had a transfusion here in the UK in the last 20 years to 10 years you can't give blood due to the mad cow disease we had here some time ago. Other than that though if it was a member of my family or a close friend, then I would not hesitate to donate. If it was some stranger, then I would definately have to think twice.

If my son or husband needed anything that I could give them, be it my kidney or skin I would not think twice. When it comes to anyone though I would gladly give my blood and when I die I have chosen to be an organ doner, but because I have a family I would not donate my other organs or skin to just anyone. The main reason being I wouldn't like the risks that go with certain procedures, especially when I have a young son. I wouldn't like to put my husband and son through unecessary worry and concern. I think people that do donate these certain things to just anyone are very special people, and we are very lucky to have such people in a world that has so much hate and killing, it is a good thing when we see the other side of people, and remember that all hope is not lost.

erm.. i think i will .. but.. actually i'm not afraid of donating blood or parts of my body..i'm just afraid of the operation involved.. i'm very scared of operation as i used to see in the teleivion.. i think after i die.. i will donate every part of my body that is still useful to others.. i do heard that some people still live with their parts.. it means.. if you're actually talented in drawing.. and you donated your parts into someone.. that someone will eventually gain your talent by coincidence.. is it true? it is proven somewhere around the world because i've read such news before =)

I would donate for my family whatever they needed. If I were a boen marrow match I would probably donate that, too.
I don't give blood either. I never can get all my blood cells right all at the same time.
