I was just wondering if any of you used to be a baton twirler or maybe your kids are into it. I twirled baton in my much younger days but I still have my baton and I get it out every once in awhile. I twirled regular baton, fire baton, hoops and swords. I remember having lots of fun marching in parades and showing off for the crowd. The only thing I didn't really like was wearing those little itty bitty uniforms. Any twirlers out there?

I was a twirler since 2nd grade that means I was 8 years old at that time.. I continued being a twirler up to 1st year high school.. I was 13 at that time.. the next year I quit. The reason for quitting is because I fainted. That was one of the most embarrassing moments in my life. We were at the ballfield it was the presentation and review of the CAT in our school and then it was really2x hot that many of us fainted because we were standing there for about 3hrs already. But I love being a twirler but walking during parades is so tiring. When I reached college I wasn't a twirler anymore I became a sponsor in our ROTC and I didn't have to walk because we rode a vehicle during the parade.

I never did do baton twirling even though I always wanted to as a child. In Australia it is not such a big thing. I was a marching girl though and we wore those itty bitty uniforms too haha.

We almost see baton swirling in Australia. I think parades with girls dressed skimpily & swinging batons never really made a hit here. Sorry I couldn't say more about this.

I tried and tried to be a baton twirler. I even took classes in my town growing up. I got ok at it- Then it became time to join the band I lost interest and played sports. I am pretty tall. I loved to watch the baton twirlers. I take my daughter to the football games and parades (she is in the band now- she is 10) and her favorite part of the bands are the baton twirlers. She likes the fire batons the best! I bet you have a lot of great memories from that!

I remember doing baton twirling when we were younger. It's not as popular in the UK as it is in the USA but when I was younger there were alot of carnivals and stuff going on and you could join the different marching bands, we were always messing about with them and I loved it alot. Sadly though there doesn't seem to be many about nowadays though. (I'm a bit too old to join in now lol)

Here is where my envious side kicks in. When I was young I went to the local park to watch the twirlers in action. I so wanted to be a twirler. Never got the opportunity to do so. Never found anyone willing to show me how to do it. So, I would pick up a stick and tried to twirl it. Of course, I failed at it.

I'm so jealous! LOL. I tried to do it, but I never could manage to master it. All I could do was turn it about half way, and drop the darned thing. I've always loved watching baton twirlers in the parades. One of my daughter's friends is a twirler, and she's really good at it. She puts on shows for me every once in a while.

I'm not a twirler, but my friends daughter is. She is 9 years old and belongs to a twirling club at her school. My Mom was a twirler when she was in school. I'm glad it is making a come back.
