I have noticed that there are people here, unfortunately some on my friend's lists that post discussions about general topics that you can tell a mile away that they just copied and pasted from other sites and it is ni their handiwork or has none of their original style. Sorry to say this but I just shy away from such discussions. I can understand copying and pasting the odd excerpt to support your post but when people, who I know English is no their mthter tongue just post loads of discussions like this but never ever come to respond to any of ours and expect every one to reply as if it is their own handy work, for me it is another form of cheating, even if it is permissible. What are your views on this?

I understand what you're saying here, Yan. There seems to be a lot of discussions here that are copied and pasted. A friend alerted me that someone actually copied my own personal article and posted it here.
I'm beginning to get irritated with some of my friends on the list who did nothing but to keep posting about five to eight threads within the minute and yet never partake in any of mine. To tell you the truth, I don't feel like posting any discussion anymore. What's the point of posting anyway when only a few friends bothered to reply. :/

Well - report it to MyLot. Then give him the negative rating. I think in this case, it is OK to post a one liner of "This was stolen from MY discussion (Then post the URL of your discussion).

I stay away from the copied and paste posts. I answer any of the questions or posts that I feel I can answer with a quality post wioth at least three senteces. More if possible.
I know I have alot of friends on my list and can't answer everyones posts/questions every day. What I do is answer the ones that actually make it to my inbox first. Than I answer the posts lited in my friernds discussion. Than i will select the ones listed in my interest. I hope this helps.

You can usually tell if it's someone own's work or if it was copied & pasted, by the writing styles. However, there are times when two people have similar styles. I say 'usually' I had a professor at a university who questioned me because of my writing style, & it seemed similar to someone else's he knew 30 years ago when I handed in my first assignment. It turned out the guy he was referring to, was English literature teacher I had for English 101, 102, & a technical writing course I took.
However, most of these copy-&-paste people - it is a lot of times too obvious, as when they do make the effort, it is obvious that English is a second language to them, & then you come across a discussion in which - well - no mistakes in grammar or spelling.
Just earlier this week, I was following along with someone who had his stuff copied & pasted. To make things worse, when the original writer complained about it, they guy that did the copy & paste came back & bashed him. I just went through that guy's discussions & saw where they came from, & reported what I was able to find. Then he came back with a second MyLot member name & started the whole process again, & I jumped on it.
I don't know if the guy is permanently banned now.

Hi Tammy.
He probably went from computer to computer (with different IP addresses) to get around it. I wish I knew what was going on, because I do admit that what I am seeing is hopefully only an illusion from not being able to see everything as it happens. Anyway, thanks for keeping me up to date.

Lets we be little fair here, and don't take it wrong I totally agree with you but.....those members have the half of the blame, the rest is our,to all of us when we go and response to them.As you said at a comment some of those topics have many responses. If we don't stop response to them they will continue do it but if they understand with *cheating* they will not earn nothing it will not be any reason to do over and over again.
It's up to us to change these more than anyone else...

I don't respond to her discussions and think of taking her off my friend's list, she never responds to mine also any way, just keeps pumping out her own pretend discussions..

I have seen a couple like this, and agree with you that it is wrong and is cheating. We should all report discussions like these if we can justify our reasons for it I guess. Unfortunately on this site, you will always get the ones who will cheat to make a fast buck. Happy Mylotting.

If you know this for sure, you should report them! Don't you remember they are earning at OUR expense? If they are gone, their "share" would go back to our common pot.

This is the only site I use for making and responding to discussions, I wouldn't have the time to spare for one and there is no other site quite like Mylot for this sort of thing. Sadly there will always be cheaters in life, on the net and even Mylot can't escape them, but as long as they are caught out and penalized then they won't get away with it, it's blatant copy and pasting that annoys me. Cheaters you can run but you can't hide!

Really I have seen quite a many people here on MyLot some even in my frined group who just copy or steal material from other sites or magaz.ines and post them as their own very thought. People just don't show any skill of theirs and I have also seen many where people just start one liner discussions without adding any of their own discriptions to it. Its really at times big turn off. I have also started shying away from them now. Any ways I hope in due course of time they learn whats more important...
Take Care
May GOD Bless YOU

There has been quite a few on here lately hun, and most have been reported and their discussions deleted. It is lazy and unacceptable on here. It is often quite blatent too, such a shame that it spoils things for all the good people on here

Honestly, you would think that they'd get that we'd know that some of their posts are taken from other sites when they're written in perfect English, and English isn't their first language.
Like you, I understand that the odd excerpt to support your discussion or point is acceptable, but not whole discussions based on someone else's work. The sad thing is that these people get paid for copying and pasting this stuff.
I much prefer to read someone's post regardless of bad grammar or poor English, because at least I know they took the time to think and type out their thoughts. Copied and pasted discussions hold no interest for me.

yes, you are not alone on this. l have also noticed it and dont reply to such post. the unfortunate thing is that you see many people responding to such questions. lts just an irony, but theres nothing we could do. what matters is that they get mylot busy with your activities and posts.

I know it happens, I have seen it myself, too. I have even gotten some replies in my discussions that were random paragraphs copied from who knows where and had nothing to do with anything. I imagine in the end it catches up with them. As far as I know, no one on my friend list does anything like that, although I did notice yesterday someone I later deleted no longer had any posts at all, where he had had something like 400 before. It was someone that answered a bunch of posts made by the guy that was stealing Wizzy's discussions over the weekend, but I don't know what happened.
I don't want top ge involved in it either because if they are going to get deleted I don't want to get dragged into it.

true. cheaters are everywhere and also are a lot of them are here in myLot. they copy and paste stuffs having them as their own. i mean, it's okey to copy paste for as long as you don't claim as yours.. put a source link at the end of your discussion. atleast we know that you have read about it somewhere and that you are interested in sharing it with us. claiming is at yours isn't really healthy in a nice discussion site like myLot.
there are also people who make up stories about themselves just to make themselves popular. and upon stitching their stories to the other, i can really sense that they aren't telling the truth. i am sad to know people like them.
happy myLotting 'el!

There are just some dishonest people here on Mylot and well not much can be done. Mylot is a great community filled with great people, but there are just some who will ruin it for others. This is why the cut and paste feature shouldn't be a available to some in my opinion. If you think that someone copies and paste discussions from others, you should contact Mylot and have them deal with it.

Yes I'm so sick and tired, of the same thing. They roll out discussions like the Daily Mirror, with their copying and pasting, and you spend hours (typing) responding to their non stop bla-bla-bla yada-yada-yada and I have not ONCE seen them respond back to one of my discussions.
I know I might not start discussions that is in every one's interest, but my golly just once would be nice. I don't think all my discussions are that boring and I only start like 2 or 3 a week, and not every 5 minutes.
But I have seen them, they are so self absorbed! They stay glued to their own pages like hmmm I'm trying very hard to stay lady like here, well let's stay with glued to their own pages, commenting on the responses that they have received with one line comments. That is why they never get a chance to respond to our discussions.
And here comes the best bit, THEY requested to be your friend! They studied us and saw we are dedicated to all our friends. And after the first 20 discussions of theirs I stopped responding and when they land in my inbox now, I don't even read them, I just delete them.

That's so sad. But maybe they are not as creative than other members of mylot. I think if they mentioned their source. And in good Faith, was for the purpose of sharing a fruitful information, maybe I can give them the benefit of the doubt. But if they posted it like, it was theirs. They should be reported to Mylot. So the admin will decide on appropriate sanction to give them. Have a great day Sis! Keep on smiling!(^^,)

I know that I have not been on myLot for long, but I have to agree with you guys. There are a lot of discussions that I just pass up because some of them are not very deep or are too personal for my taste. I really like this forum, and I enjoy alot of the discussions. I think that in answering the posts, you should have your own original response. I am not one to use others words to post answers, but I do notice that what I may write has the same basic concept as other peoples.
